Is the dealer giving me correct driveshaft info?
I have 5 months and almost 7k on my 2007 4Runnner Sport. Sometimes when I come to a stop, I get that clunk, like I got rear ended. It usually happens about 4-5 seconds after I am stopped.
I mentioned this to the dealer and they told me that the driveshaft clunking is a problem Toyota has not found a solution to yet, and there isn't even a port to lube the driveshaft on my vehicle. Was I being buls**tted, or is this true? All the threads I read about this during a search refer to lubing the driveshaft.
I originally brought it in for that, and also under hard accelleration I often hear what sounds like a ping, like the worn timing chain of my '87 Cutlass. I thought it may be bad gas. the mechanic said he didn't hear anything abnormal. I still hear it, after several fill ups from gas stations.
Should I be going to a different dealership? Can I go back armed with some information?

There is a fix for a rear-end clunk noise in the Lexus GX470.
There is a modified propshaft, and 4 updated rear control arms. The 4-links themselves are the same, only the bushings are 'clocked' differently in the ends, and they have specific positions.
Since your 120-series 4Runner is virtually identical to the GX470, I'd imagine it's the same fix, using the same parts.
HTH.
