*Note, the short reply being go find a 6 speed, unbolt the bellhousing, see if a R150/R151 bellhousing will bolt up. How about the input shaft and will it fit the pilot bearing and not be too long?

Yes or No?

Now, if yes, see if a right drop transfercase will bolt up or if you need the adapter. Call Marlin Crawler, see if there's an adapter (since I know Inchworm makes one, and Marlin makes far superior stuff) and if not can they make one you can use a geared case with? it's all really simple as far as the case drop goes as they already have all their adapters in CAD format and it's somewhat simple to do modifications and changes.

Yes or No?

If yes, order up then figure out driveshaft lengths and angles.

The R150F has a 160 mm input shaft; if I'm not mistaken, the R151, R154 & I think W58 have the longer 190 mm input shaft.

i wasn't under the impression that this would be a "cheap bolt in swap." right now i'm just trying to decide what i want to with the truck. I'm trying to decide if I want to swap in a 3.4, the whole 4.0 drivetrain, or nothing, and buy a newer tacoma in a few years.

thanks for the info, kellyC. i'll contact marlin crawler, or just wait until some more info comes out about a 4.0 swap. i'm a decent mechanic, but i'm no engineer. i dno't think i have the skills to figure out how to swap the whole drivetrain.

Newer R150's also have the longer input shaft(such as the 150's behind the 3.4)

No worries, glad to be able to contribute and help.

FWIW a S/C'd 3.4 and R150 w/ a gear case adapter conversion is really nice. A hopped up 3.0 w/ Ceramic 505 Thorley's into a SuperCat and a Flowmaster (*bit loud) with full 2.5" tailpipe to the rear bumper will also do pretty well. Just stay on top of your cooling and have a great tech do the heads and gaskets.

I'll see if I can get you a video of that if you like.

Or read KelleyC's first post in this thread, and stop being a thread-o-philiac and bringing up old threads.
