tacoma 6 speed into a 94 pickup
Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to swap the 6 speed manual from the newer tacomas into a 89-95 pickup? I was looking around for information on bellhousing patterns but I couldn't find anything.
Any ideas?

94 pickup. i'm asking about the tacoma because the tranny bellhousing pattern is the same for the early tacoma and the pickup.
i want to swap the tranny into a pickup, but eventually i want to swap in a 3.4 also. it's got the 3.0 now.
so, both trucks , i guess.

Uhhh...?
The 6 speed didnt come until 05, And Idk if the 1GR bellhousing is nearly the same as your 3VZ..
Not to mention the transfer case is going to be on the WRONG side.
Go back to the drawing board

well, it's not even at the drawing board, it's at the idea board. that's what i'm trying to find out, is if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same.
the 6 speed from 05 up was the tranny i'm interested in. i am aware that it wasn't in the earlier tacomas. thanks, anyways, tho.

Either Way
If you find a way to get that transmission on your engine, Your going to have to figure out what to do about the transfer case drop being on the wrong side..
Or figure out how to molest your transfer case enough to fit onto the tranny..

thank you for the info on the transfer case. i'm trying to work out in my head what needs to be done to do this swap. next on my list are crossmembers and electronics. however, i do still need to figure out how to get the engine to mount to the tranny.

For the transfer case issues, try marlincrawler. I don't see anything on their website, but you could call 'em and talk to someone about what you want to do. There was a guy who put one of the 4.0 v6's into a 90's rig, i do believe. At work, so can't search it now, sorry.

hey, if YOU find anything let me know! i can't find any info on toyota bellhousing bolt patterns, but i can find them on chevies all day long. The closest thing i found was an article on how to hook up a toyota tranny to a jeep or old dodge musclecar.

Regarding the output on the transfer case, Marlin makes adapters you could use to change the transfercase to a different model with a different output, specifically the 360 degree adapter, you could even go with a gear case if you wanted to. In my opinion though a wiser move would be to simply flip a front solid axle, relocate the fill and drain plugs and (possibly) have to weld-up and re-drill and tap the mount bolt locations for the 3rd member. (*Also turn the knuckles, reweld the spring plates, etc-etc.)
As for the bell-housing and actual lengths I can't offer any advise there as it is something that has yet to possibly be done, but may actually have been done or started on in Australia where they first pioneered both the Lexus V-8 and 3.4 swaps. Basically the first ones made were shaved, cut/modified and welded. An example would be Marlin's 2rz-3rz housing. First a cut and welded prototype was made then later a cast was made and actual production models started.
I like the idea you are playing with, as far as engines, most of the 3.4's are are actually being snatched up for swaps, thus my thoughts here as to the 4.0/6 speed swap below being the next big thing, you just have to figure out how to integrate it all with a stand alone harness while keeping the controls and brakes functional, get it? The availability of R150's isn't in jeopardy (yet?) but I do see the R151's disappearing quicker. (*IIRC, currently Marlin Czajkowski 's actually running a Hino 6 speed for a prototype setup. Hino being Toyota's industrial truck company. So if anyone would be able to really help it would be him.)
If it were me, I'd be seriously thinking save up some cash for a little and figure out how to marry the 4.0 in with the 6 speed...that or honestly consider trying to talk with Marlin (559)25-CRAWL and see if they have any advise as they are the ones doing the 2rz-3rz housing. The 4.0/6speed will be the next big swap going on soon enough.
*So, in closing, please don't let the doubters get you down, keep at it and show us you can dooo itttt! it's thoughts like this that make the swaps possible if actually acted upon and followed through. (Kinda like how they used to think if you went over 55mph your face would be pulled off )
