Great job on the mod! However that,s my concern also. Liquid splooshing onto the faceplate. I never cared for the 90 - 95 cupholder design either... it blocks the vents and can still splash liquid around. Be careful with it.

I like the mount in my 99'
I'm going to either build a armrest/cupholder like my 99 for my 89, or get one of a newer truck (kinda $$ tho)

That is slick, but like a previous poster stated, I wish it would work with a manual.
Somewhere on here, someone modded a 3rd gen with cupholders into his 1st gen. For me, I just buy those .99 cent door hanger cupholders and put them on my glove box. I use the one closest to me, and my girlfriend uses the other.

Maybe all of my old threads will rise from the dead on Halloween (also my birthday) to haunt me. As for above my runner is a 1st gen so if those panels fit in mine they will fit your 86....just a little massaging and they will fit great. The soda from my cupholder never spalshes on the radio

You made the same mistake that VW made on the 4th gen. You put the cupholder so a drink blocks access to the stereo. My 2nd gen 4Runner is about as bad. In those countries noone uses cupholders so they don't care where they put them.

Yea but I have a joystick remote for the stereo so I can control all radio functions from the armrest. Who ever was interested in a price go to crutchfield.com for the enclosures. I really dontuse the cupholder alot but it comes in handy from time to time.

Looks good, I like those cup holders...probably because I also have a 2001 golf with the same ones. I like your speaker setup as well.

But what about the vw cup colder faceplate?
