Steering Gear Leaking

Has anyone fixed their leaking power steering gear?
Mine is leaking from the worm gear shaft and I want to put a new seal in it. Unfortunately, it looks as if the box needs to be disassembled to do so. I was wondering if anyone had any luck doing this on the truck. If memory serves me, I think that the sector shaft has to drop out before the power piston/worm gear assy. can be removed and then I am not too sure of the seal but by looking at it, it seems to be from the inside. It'll be a cold day in Hadees before I drop a 250 dollar bill on a rebuilt unit when all I need is to seal a leak on mine which otherwise is just fine. Can anyone hand down some pointers?
Thanx,
Bud
