the actual pipe

i believe it all becomes out of reach (maybe) with the manifold on.....my shield is is the way of my view, but if you can reach the small bolt that secures it to the block and the 3 that hold it to the back of the timing cover, you may just be able to pull it away enough...or totally, to service the end of it to be sure it's flat and clean.

Thanks Jerry! That's the one

When I get to it, I think I'll try removing the dizzy, PS pump, belts, and then remove that bolt that holds the pipe to the block....and then attack the 3 bolts on the flange.

Will report back when done

I never touched the block.

I used "orange goop" hand cleaner from Harbor Freight to clean everything....rinses clean, no residue like all the others.......everything I touched, I cleaned and painted 9for the most part).....couldn't stand looking in there and trying to differentiate black from gray from grayish black.
