Hello Everyone,

I recently purchase a 1994 Toyota 4Runner 6Cyl / 3.0 (4x4), I decided to take on the challenge to drop and reseal the oil pan due to the reason it was leaking oil, I dropped the front differential and unbolted all nuts and bolts from the oil pan
as of right now the oil pain its literally just hanging from what I'm assuming to be the oil pump filter? I can't seem to manage to remove the oil pan at all.

can anyone educate me as to what I'm doing wrong and possibly point me in the right direction for a solution?

If your 100% sure you have all the nuts and bolts out(double check) then the only thing holding it on should be the sealant. I used a gasket scraper to get in between the block and pan. Something very thin and sturdy will work like a putty knife.

Mine had an anti winding type of plate inside that the pan sandwiched to the block. Be careful. Take your time. Get in there and scrape around the edge of the pan. It should fall off

I understand him to be saying that the pan is loose, but its hanging on the pan baffle and the oil pick-up.

The pan is gonna have to be moved back, or foreward just so to get the oil pickup to clear. Maybe the engine mounts will have to be undone, and the engine raised a little to get it done, I don't know for sure.

Seems I heard that the oil pickup sometimes has to be unbolted from the engine to get the pan out, but maybe that was on a 22re???

Oh I see what your saying. Yea. The pick up tube could be giving him trouble. He pulled the front diff though? Let's see what he has to say. Now I'm confused! Ha!

I just did mine recently, so I know just what your problem is. the gasket set comes with two gaskets, that's your first clue, there is a "windage tray" or splash pan sandwiched between the pan and the block. you will need to remove the pickup tube to remove the splash pan, so carefully separate it from the pan and you can access the bolts to pull the pickup tube.

AKWHEELER, you're 100% correct. I started messing around with the Pan trying to figure out why I couldn't remove it and then I noticed a metal type gasket but in my head I was like there's no way there's a metal gasket plus the RTV!
so I manged to get the putty knive between the baffle plate and as you can see on the pictures above i finally manged to remove the OIL PAN

I guess I got lucky and the winding plate stayed on my block when I did it. I didn't even think of all this. I learned something. Everyone has their first day......

I guarantee it's not a winding plate. windage is the term

Anti winding plate? Should we call Toyota to get the correct name for it? Will that make you sleep at night?
