Not sure how the Tacos break down on years, but I know the 3rd gen 4Runners need the ORS manual hub conversion kit ($1K) and manual hubs to go to manual hubs. It is not like on the 1st gen 4Runners and swapping from auto hubs to manual hubs.

for a daily driver and part time off-road truck, you might look into a front locker, and a tru-trac in the rear. that's the setup i wanted to go with for a while, but i decided in my infinite stupidity, that i'm going to find and adapt a toyota e-locker to the rear of my '94 4x4, and get a locker for the front. (it has manual hubs, so they're only locked when i need 4 wheel drive, aside from the 20 miles a month i lock them in for the hell of it on my way to work)

i found a tech article on 4x4wire (i think) that shows how to adapt the e-locker to older toyota pickups.

if you have manual hubs and a locker up front, as long as the hubs arent engaged it won't mess up turning at all, right?

Go for the locker but it will eat your tiers up on the pavement

yeah, i really want the front and rear locked, so i'm definatly going to adapt a rear e-locker. and i'll just lock the front.

Are you sure about that? From what I have seen with auto hubs of that nature once they lock you are fine, but it takes reverse to unlock them, in 2wd. Reverse in 4wd should work fine.
