Help!! clutch has hell of a time going into 1st and grinds in reverse
So just purchased a 1992 Toyota truck V6 3.0 5 speed 4x4. I knew the vehicle had a problem with the clutch/ tranny. I couldn't let it go for the price! The problem I'm having is that it has a hell of a time goin into 1st gear (when coasting it shifts in fine) but once to a complete stop it takes a lot to go into gear... Also reverse grinds a bit. Every thread that poped up talked about CMC needs replaced or adjustment on the free play or broken bracket; however, with this truck the guy replaced the CMC Clutch peddle bracket and only has 10k on a new clutch (all with receipts from legit mechanics that i know of in town and the Toyota dealer). I just adjusted the free play to full extension and still have the problem! This problem seems to come and go and seems to work fine when I just start the truck (cold engine). Transmissions/ clutch is not my strong point in mechanical knowledge. I'm planning on changing the tranny fluid today to see if that helps any (seems like a good idea anyway!) also check if there's any in there that my prevent it from shifting. Oh also if it was the tranny syncros it would have difficulty shifting while parked right? Sorry for such a long post but just want to give as much info as possible. And any help will be greatly appreciated

My '89 had shifting problems like you describe. It was the clutch pedal bracket cracked, flexing and not allowing full clutch disengagement. If you are skillful you can shift in motion without using the clutch. Trans fluid has nothing to do with it, unless its either gone or totally broken down.
Only things I can think of are the bracket or one or both of the cylinders bleeding down rapidly after you depress the clutch pedal.
Technique I always use shifting into 1st or reverse while stationary is to shift into second first, then reverse; and to pull the shift lever against second before going into first. Sorry I can't be of more help.

There is an adjustment nut on the back of the clutch pedal. After I changed my clutch i couldant get it into gear at all, just back the nut off so the pedal pushes the MC more and walaah! shifts smooth. The only problem with that is that the pedal comes out more before it grabs. But try it and see. Yours might only need minor adjusting.

My truck doesn't, and will not ever grind when going into reverse, provided you give it a second or two after coming to a stop or pressing in the clutch. My first yota and a couple other yotas I've driven were the same way.
If the CMC has been replaced, the pedal bracket is NOT broken (make sure of that), freeplay is adjusted according to the FSM, and the hydraulic line is good, than it's likely the slave cylinder. I've had two of these go out. They are very cheap and easy to replace.

all the above are possibles; worst case, is you have some bad teeth/ syncros, and the surface of the plate is ate up, and you will need a entire clutch kit assy.
Hopefully you will not need a tranny rebuild; but hopefully the above stuff will work for you. nut adjustment first, then try the master/slave clutch assy's.
