Fan and Alternator Belt: 22R-E (Engine Accessory Belts)

Need to replace V-Belt for fan and alternator.

Good Resource on Yotatech: https://www.yotatech.com/how-tos/a/t...y-belts-414774

Toyota Parts Deal lists it as PN 99331-10870, but has been discontinued.

PART NUMBER 99331-10870 DISCONTINUED

I bought PN 99331-10870-83 thinking it's the same. However "-83" is not cogged like my existing accessory belts.

LOOKS LIKE THE WRONG PART. HAS "-83" ON PART NUMBER. Correct circumference but is standard, not "cogged:.

STANDARD COMPARED TO COGGED

Do you think it matters?
My current belts are after market. Do you know if stock belts were also cogged?

keywords: Engine Accessory Belts, EngineAccessoryBelts, waterpumpbelt, alternatorbelt

I've never really noticed a lifetime difference when I was wrenching. Long as it is the right size (length, width, V angle) and tightened correctly it should last till your next maintenance change out.

I kinda like cogged but that I just a personal thing. I've never seen a cogged break at the valley of the cog, which one might think is a weak spot.

One thing that does mess with belts is sitting in one position for a long time. Like when a car sits for years - same with swamp coolers.

I would bet aftermarket belts are made by the same people who make belts for Toyota etc.

Better than no belt.

I’m curious about differences.

And that blue color is kinda sexy

best guess is it’s effected more by oil than a solid belt by connect points to pulley. Imagine they’re both made of same material. Think any oil between 2 surfaces that rely on friction is a bad thing. X2 on sexy factor!!

Thanks for the inputs, guys! Latest development:
Belt that's currently on the truck is 12-mm wide. Toyota part number xxx870 suggests its length (actually the perimeter is 870-mm. The Gates 12mm, 870mm is too tight. Turns out the V-angle is critical.
Then upon closer inspection, the 12-mm belt gets too close to a bracket on the power steering pump, so I looked for 10-mm V-belts.
NAPA lists PN XL 7350 (10mm wide, 904mm length, looks like re-branded Gates) is too long; maxes out the alternator bracket tensioning adjustment.
O'Reilly lists Gates XL 7345 (10mm wide, 891 mm length) and looks just right. I'll keep you posted when I finally do it.

BTW, because the old belts are light and in decent shape (little cracks on rubber but belt is not frayed), I'm keeping them always in truck as spare, just in case. My inner body panels are so easy to remove and re-install now for spares storage behind them.

I believe most everything with the NAPA brand is re-branded.

I did a lady's swamp cooler last week that had a Mutsubishi brand belt so I'm guessing in many cases a belt is just a belt.

Did you go with a cogged or regular belt?

There is always the Bando belt option: https://22reperformance.com/22re-ft-...ve/drive-belts

That Bando kit looks good, but wanted to be able to easily try or return so I got cogged Gates XL 7345 (10mm wide, 891 mm length) LOCALLY from O'Reilly.

I ran across this site from another forum with more belt info, figured it would fit in nice here.

Just to update you on this topic, GATES XL 7345 cogged belt fits perfectly such that the screw terminal of alter_nator is easy to access and not hidden under the right-angle hose leading to the water pump.

Gates 7345 XL for alternator/fan and Gates 9440 XL for power steering pump is what I installed 2.5 years ago on my 92 pickup with 22RE. Both been doing just fine. Had to adjust the alternator belt one time this past Spring.

Thanks for the P.S. pump belt info. Will look at that, too.
