Does anyone know anything about transmissions?
Ive got a Single cab, Short bed, 1994 Toyota pickup, 4wd, 22RE, 5 speed manual transmission, manual lock in hubs.
Pretty common truck, but for some reason Autozone has 5 different transmissions listed for my truck.
I gave them the VIN# but they said that wouldn't tell them anything...
The 5 model transmissions they have are...
W55 MODEL
W40 G OR W SERIES
G57 G OR W SERIES
R150 G OR W SERIES
G40 G OR W SERIES
Ive looked for some kind of tag on the transmission and cannot find one, ive also checked the tag on the inside of the door jam and it had no usable information...Im kind of stuck....
Anyone had this problem before, Or have any suggestions?
Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!

S***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe since it wasn't one of the options autozone gave me, i over looked it.
I feel stupid haha.
Why would autozone not have that in their inventory though?
Also Scottyc: The website you have listed addictedoffroad.com, is that your website?
Im looking at some 5.29 gearing for my truck right now.

Ive got to buy a new transmission for my truck, The syncs in second gear are gone.
Second gear began rarely popping out when i would shift in and let out of the clutch,
Now its to the point of every 9 out of 10 times it will pop out of second gear when i release the clutch.
I decided to go ahead and replace the transmission instead of just rebuilding 2nd gear seeing as that this transmission has 249,000 miles on it.

You have a W56-C. So, not all W56 transmissions are the same. Most came in 85-89 pickup and 4runners.
Yours has a forward shift transfer case on it. Most have a top shift Tcase in the earlier models. Marlin Crawler can sell you a rebuilt unit for yours, but they aren't cheap. Or, you can try to find a local place to do it.

You can also swap tailhousings to convert a w-56 a or b to a forward shift C. I was in the same situation with my 85. I had a w-56c in it and could only find top shift w56's. So I bought one and used the tailhousing from the C and just swapped so my shifters are in the same location

Ive got a buddy that works at Autozone that i can get a 25% discount off of the transmission.
So after i added up the prices of getting my tranny rebuilt,
Or just buying a new one with clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, rear main seal,
I was coming out just a couple hundred dollars more then getting it rebuilt.
So i decided to get a brand new one with a warranty.
Made more sense to me.
