Hey buckz, this is quite the thread you've got going here.

I take what I said earlier back:

Doing the HG on a friend's 3VZE, got the same thing on one bolt behind the #6 cylinder camshaft cap. Problem is that there's a locator pin there that the bolt goes through, so that bolt only gets about 4 threads worth of bite, compared to the rest that get closer to 10. Bit of a failure on the Toyota engineers' part. When I pulled the bolt back out, there was the spiral of aluminum that used to be the threads of the cylinder head, now wrapped around the end of the bolt.

Looks like there are lots of fresh threads down below. Thinking I'll get one of the longer cam cap bolts from the stealership and cut it down.

When I took the thing apart, the cam caps were torqued down way too hard. Rounded the heads of two of the bolts getting them off. Same with the cylinder head bolts. Can't believe the heads are still straight, but they are.

I just fixed this on mine. You'll need three gaskets that cost around $10 online (or $20 at your stealership's parts counter):

90301-61003 Base gasket
90210-22001 Gasket for the bolt
15785-35010 Internal gasket

If you've been leaking a lot of oil, check that the cooler's hoses are still ok. Oil makes them soft and weak and weepy.

15778-65010 Long hose
15777-65010 Short hose
