That's good to know. I wonder if it's just old stock or if Exedy is still keeping the Daikin factory going. BTW autohausaz.com, a great vendor in Arizona, carries Daikin clutches. They have great customer service and probably could tell you if their stock was made in Japan. They are very fussy about the quality of the parts they sell - so if the Daikin clutches turned to garbage, I doubt autohausaz would still carry them.

ive had nothing but great experiences with Marlin...a actual human being answers the phone everytime ive called them...always been 110% helpfull and everything ive ordered has gotten to me in sunny florida rather quickly....g

I got an Aisin from wab and it's very soft pedal and smooth shifting and I like it so far, I only got around a 1000 miles on it so far, it came from Trail Gear 3rd party from wab, besides it took awhile to getting it (like 2 weeks) and good thing I didn't need it ASAP since still working on engine and so far working great on-road, will let everyone know how it does at the badlands...

i just put in a marlin crawler 1200# clutch kit in my 94 v6 truck. it is AWESOME. absolutely great grip and it is really easy on the leg in stop and go traffic. i highly highly recommend it.. great customer service too..

This is what I put in my 90 p/u about 5-6 years ago http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HAY-90-400/ Worked great, and I worked it pretty damn hard at times and was my daily driver. Was still working great up until the day I rolled the truck. Then I sold the motor with the clutch still on it and as far I know the guy I sold it to is still driving on it. It spent a few years in front of 33's with stock gears and some heavy abuse,then about 2 years in front of 35's with 5.29s with occasional abuse. Pedal felt stock to me,but I really didn't pay much attention to how the stock one felt either.

Looking for stiffer clutch performance
88 22R with 4.10 and slightly taller than stock tires, carrying a ton of payload:
I am doing research now on an HD or comp clutch because I am pretty sure I'll need one soon. I burn plenty of clutch just getting this thing in gear sometimes. I find myself double clutching to keep the launch smooth, and when I am too slow on my release I get chatter--I HATE chatter.
By the way, It's been suggested that I go with a lighter flywheel to improve throttle response, so I am considering that change at the same time as the clutch change. Would appreciate any feedback on that idea.
I am interested in Marlin because I buy into what survivorman said about Marlin as a company, and because the AISIN isn't working for me, and was just as pathetic in my previous truck. IMHO, soft, stock clutches are lame for hauling heavy loads.
I am considering a HD Marlin clutch, a lighter flywheel, and heavy duty motor mounts as a complete package to stiffen launch and 1-2 shift performance.
Any ideas?

Pretty much a 7 year old thread.
Explain just what you mean by a heavy payload ??
I have towed quite a few pickups and 4Runners on Tow dollies with the Aisin Clutch (87 4Runner 22re)with no problems about 75,000 miles on the clutch
I know it is not really the same but more Horse power but my 2000 Tacoma 3.4 5 speed has a Luk clutch it is most often loaded heavy on a few times I have had a Ton of Wood Bricks close to 80,000 miles on this clutch
Now if your talking about Hardcore Rock Crawling why not go the double case route to save wear and tear on the clutch
Any clutch will have a short life span in that kind of use.
A lighter flywheel will make starting out even harder with the 22R series engine
Be different if you had a 1000 horse power Drag car but Automatics are the thing now days according to friends still addicted to going fast in a straight line
Since All my vehicles have new clutches I not really shopping but my next one most likely will be a Marlin

IIRC the lighter flywheel suggestion had to do with acceleration but the heavy load thing had not been mentioned. With loads a lightened flywheel would not be the way to go.
As Wyo asked - Is your payload actually a ton and do you carry that all the time?

I didn't know if it would be appropriate to start a new thread if there was already a thread on the topic you want to discuss. That's why I replied to an old thread.
I am glad you set me straight on the flywheel thang.
I do not have any intention to do any kind of crawling. My sole focus is getting to worksites.
The load is tools and materials for my business. The truck is fully loaded all the time. I estimate the load to be 1/2 to 3/4 ton because I have 1-ton springs with extra leaves, rearched. And its all necessary to hold the weight.

Since your not rock crawling it does not really apply .
But running two transfer cases allows you to really crawl at low speeds so your not riding the clutch all the time
If this is a work truck maybe think about going to a full size Truck I am sure you have your reasons for not having one.
One does what one has to at times.
