Ask an emmission tech at a place you don't plan on going.

I know in CA, CO, and NV they visually inspect. I have a 69 CJ that all smog crap is off and I can't get it to pass visually.

In washington the car has to be 25 years before its grandfathered in. So an 84 like mine will never have to do it.

Even if you pass the test, Ill second the they are there for a reason. Those tubes control a whole mess of stuff responsible all kinds of stuff. I cant seriously believe it runs well, and dosent get gallons to miles vs. mpg without them?

and don't even start to suggest that the timing curve, fuel delivery rate and such all depend on those 'smog' devices working, and if something is wrong, you might get too much or not enough fuel, or the timing is wrong, or heaven forbid... the engine won't run right.

oh... and there's those federal regulations to contend with too... and you just might get pulled over by one of them trucks operated by the state police / marshall or even the feds themselves....

and please, protect the environment.

why do you want to remove all of it, is it broken or not working already? if its there and not causing any problems i dont see why it needs to be taken off, and remember if you take it off, 2 years from now your going to have to put it back on which no matter how good of a job you do taking it apart is going to be somewhat difficult those lines are a mess even for a toyota. unless there is something i am not seeing here leave it on. i live in cali so i cant even think about messing with my smog stuff i have snuck by visuals because i have friends that are smog techs and i havent had a problem with the sniffer or gas cap test and the new one we have the evap system test

and let us not forget the forthcoming CO2 emission test as well, which is likely to be adopted by many states...
