A/C rebuild - input needed

A/C rebuild - input needed
Looking for insight/advice on how to bring my A/C back from the dead. I bought an 87 Runner that has factory A/C, but some of the plumbing is missing. Actually it only looks like a single line is missing. Never the less, the compressor and lines have been exposed to air for some time. Looking for advice on how to determine if the A/C system is in good enough shape to recharge. I assume (after replacing the missing line), the system will need to be pumped down and leaks detected. Can only an A/C shop do this, or can I get a vacuum from Harbour Freight or other shop to pull vacuum? How do I determine if the compressor is in good shape? Any input is appreciated. I know next to nothing about A/C.
Thanks,
Aaron

If the compressor has been sitting unused and open to the elements for a long period of time, then just replace it. The a/c compressor can and will go bad because of this, but who knows, you might get lucky and it might work ?.
