'95 4Runner with ADD, confused about manual hib conversion

Ok, being a 'yota newbe, I'm a little confused about some of the information regarding the manual hub conversion for a '95 4Runner with ADD.
Most writeups make it appear pretty simply.
Get the hubs (new, used or otherwise), pop off the ADD hub and simply bolt the manual hubs on in place.
That being the case, then what's the deal with places like Downey selling "manual hub conversion kits" that include a lot more than simply the hubs, bolts, gaskets.
It appears that the Gen III's with ADD require a lot more to do a manual hub conversion than the Gen II's ???? Correct ??
If so, why do some sites list this type of kit (more parts) for '95's ??

Thanks,
Fred

Not sure where you are seeing kits that have a bunch of parts for the 2nd Gen, but literally all you need are the hubs and gaskets. It's an easy swap...

Yoou can also disable the ADD system. There's a writeup out there somewhere for this...

but disableing the ADD is optional... most people just swap hubs and call it a day.

It was probably listed incorrectly for the 1995 4runners... should be 1996 4Runner or possibly 1995.5 Tacoma I think.

Gen III 4Runners (1996-2002) require a lot more parts because you need a different hub assembly, CV shafts, and other assorted parts to allow for manual operation. This is because Gen-III 4Runners' CV shaft bolt to the hub, they don't use splined shafts. The total for those kits hovers around $700-1000 I think... It replcaes the entire hub (the part that has the wheel studs in it) and the CV's, and then adds manual hubs on that. When you think about all of the parts in the kit, it's a pretty good deal.

Gen II 4Runners just have "drive flanges" on the front, similar to something you might see on a full-floating rear end on large trucks. The outside shafts of the CV going into the hub are splined and the flange accepts a splined shaft and bolts to the hub. Because of this, it is quite simple to take the flange off and replace it with a "manual hub" that slips over the splined shaft. Therefore a new kit for Warn hubs on a Gen II 4Runner only costs something like $200.

I think I got all of that right...

Warns! I got themn for less than $150, one of the best mods ever.

The nuts get loose? LOCKTIGHT, and don't you look over your rig often for stuff like loose nuts.

If I could find a pair that would be great.
Been looking for a week or so and haven't run across any.
BTW, what year(s) do I look for and from what vehicles.

Thanks,
Fred

There may be some still for sale in the marketplace. They pop up all the time. Also, ebay has them. You need 86-95 ifs hubs, it doesn't matter if they were from a truck or 4runner.
