92 reg cab sas question

I have a 92 model regular cab 4x4 and have been looking into a SAS for a while. I was looking into doing a TG IFS eleminator kit until i found an 84 Runner that I can get for around 800 bucks!! I have not done any measurements yet to see if my body and bed will bolt directly on. I have done research on this forum for some time and have heard mixxed responses. I am wondering if any of you out there can tell me for sure if this will bolt directly on or if there will be modifications that need to be done to accomodate the 92 truck body to the 84 Runner chassis? As I stated, I have read several posts and have not found a defenite answer.

Anything is possible with enough time and money. Here's a better idea. Why don't you get the runner and use it as your trail rig rather than sasn your 92? Then you still have a get to work vehicle and a weekend one!

I've been left without a ride cuz offroad trip went bad. 2 words. No bueno.

I have decided in the past two years to turn my Yota into a project truck and completely redo it from engine swap, SAS, and basicly a frame off restore. I have other vehicles for daily drivers, so that's not a problem. I know that the swap can be done, but wanted to know how simple or difficult it will be. I may just do TG kit if the runner will not bolt right up to my body.

Will the contour of both frames be the same? Mounts seem easy enuff to cut and reweld in the right locations. But another concern is that the contour of the frame not being the same on the Runner as it is on the P/U.

Some people like the SA frames because they can be used for lower COG rigs easier than the IFS frames. I have no idea about particulars putting the later body on the 4runner frame... anything can be done,... but consider what your final goal is. If you definitely want a "low" SAS rig maybe consider it, but it might be easier just to SAS your truck. You will still need to do a decent amount of work either way... I'd build both!

As I stated above, I have read through several threads before asking these questions. And as also stated above, those said threads have had mixed answers on the swap. Not to mention that I have also searched threads on other forums and sites as well. I prob could have done a little more searching and found the answers to my questions, but I was sorta in a time crunch as the guy has had several hits on his add for the runner. Although I have not had very many posts here at yotatech, I have been a member of the forums for some years now and have gotten alot of useful knowledge from the members here. I am not one of those guys who is just too lazy to do the research and post questions.

As always, thanks to all of you for the replies and comments. If anyone else has anything to add, please do.

Yeah gonna need some fab work to make it fit...just do the eliminator kit...or buy all the parts separate

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I have read on Pirate and here, the only thing you are truly gaining from using a SA frame, is the fact that it's bent differently and allows an easier time when building a "low" rig. Other than that, there is no reason to use the SA frame over a IFS frame w/ SAS done to it, especially if you are going to be using hi steer and better springs anyway. The other option is the 2wd frames, seems like some guys like that for low rigs as well.

^^^basically that's it..they bend upwards right where the axle is giving you the ability of have a lower truck or more uptravel without major frame mods...if your doing it just for the ease of already having the axle in....just sas ur truck...trust me way less of a headache

I think swapping the bodies wouldn't be that horribly difficult, but don't think that you're going to save money or time over doing a SAS on the 3rd gen. The spring mounts are located poorly and are not very strong, so you'll basically being doing all the same things to a solid axle truck as you would to an IFS truck.
Personally, I'd buy the 4Runner, and have an IFS and a solid axle vehicle.

The only reason to do it is if you want a lower truck that still flexes nicely.

My guess is the only thing you'll gain in the end is an extra 8 years of grease, grime, rust and dirt to clean off the frame.

I appreciate all of the feedback from you guys. I have done some thinking on the swap and I believe that the way to go would be just to do the elimination of the ifs and do the SAS. As for the runner, I am thinking of just getting it for the heck of having it and maybe starting a seperate build after my truck is completed. I will be posting the build when I start in the coming weeks.

I will post the pics of the runner when I load them to the laptop from my phone.

Here are a couple pics of the runner that I will be picking up this week. He has said 800bucks for the rig as it sits. 5days ago he blew a head gasket on the 22r.
What ya think? Sunroof has not been in it for couple years.
