22R Turbo without the turbo installed
I was talking to my neighbor the other day, and he said he kinda wanted to sell his 87 Toyota pickup. He put an 22R turbo in it a long time ago, and now he said there is no turbo installed though. I thought the turbo engine had to have the turbo installed to even run, but yet i see him driving it every week. Hes asking $1500, should I buy it?

22r wasn't a turbo- that would be the 22rte unless the owner did something
the engine will run without the turbo and not be all that different from a normal 22re except maybe a little less power
if the body and interior are in good shape, 1500 for a turbo is an excellent price.

the turbo on the 22r/rte ends up making (without mods) about as much power as the v6 that came out in 88. read as in: not a lot.
before we give any advise about what to do for more power you should tell us what you want to do with it, and if you want it to be street legal.

Yes I need it to be street legal. Im going to be using it for driving to and from college, and just messing around with it. I know that the body only has 70,000 miles on it, and I dont think that engine had very many miles on it when he put it in.
I have about 600-700 to spend on it, whether that be putting a new turbo in, or anything else. This is the first turbo I've messed with, so will it be too hard for me to do myself. Thanks again
