2 piece drive shaft conversion?

Hi guys i have an 89 extended cab 4x4 toyota truck what i want to do is drop the 2piece drive shaft and get a 1 piece installed.
the problem is cost i talked to my local drives shaft shop and for them to make me a custom 1 piece it would be around 7-800$ what i am wondering is if i could get a drive shaft from a Chevy truck would a shop be able to lengthen it a couple inches and put new flanges on it so it would adapt to my toyota??

has anyone tried this or would it be to weak? i only have a 22re in my truck so not a whole lot of power..
the reason i want to do this is for some reason my center or steady bearing (the one that keeps the 2 piece from twisting in half keeps going after around a year and i end up twisting my drive shaft off and banging it around.
and these bearings are around 350$ from my local shops.

any help or suggestions would be great.

Wow, I'm still using my original. Something must be wrong

Here's a write-up on making the change though:

If your u-joints on both ends are good, you might be able to have a single tube made at a drive line shop.
