Raditor leak

I have a 85 4Runner that does not over heat, but pushes a quart of water out of the over flow every time I fill it up. If I do not add water every day in about a week it will not have enough fluid and will overheat. There is no water in the oil (On the dip stick). But the oil fill cap shows signs of water. I have a new radiator cap and a new thermostat. What do you guys think?

Are there also bubbles coming out of your overflow hose even after you stop the engine? My never overheated 92 4runner did the losing coolant thing before it started to burn coolant and had very visible bubbles in the overflow tank. One engnbuilder full gasket kit (primarily for head gaskets) and many little coolant hoses later it stopped.

If you oil filler cap is showing signs of coolant leak (white foam/emulsion), then you most likely have a failing head gasket. Suggest draining your oil and looking at it closely to see if you see white streaks or cloudy grayish tint. Can you see any obvious wet marks on the block along the head gasket?

I sort of felt it was a head gasket, it had a blown one when I bought it. I took a bastard mill file to the deck and head. It has been a year and 1/2 sence the repair. But it runs so good. I have 31's and I can use 5th gear on the freway all the time.

I can not see the gasket, but taking the oil out and looking at it will help The way it pushes out the water it is like there is pressure building in the coolant system.

If there is water where the oil cap it it could also be a cracked head... Make sure when you take it all apart again to have the head checked for warpage and for cracks. Sometimes the cracks aren't apparent until it is heated.

Good luck with that imported engine but I have not heard good things about them. From what I have heard they are built to last 30k and then take a crap.

I hope that is not your case.

Doesn't matter now but I had Ted at engnbldr tell me that some white film under the oil cap is normal, especially in wet weather.

So they make two different motors one for the USA and one for the JDM??? I do not think so. If this motor is not good for 200,000 mi from Toyota I am gona !!!!
