22RE Intake

I would like to swap out the stock intake and put in a newer one that does not have the air control valve. Does anyone know what year that started?

Thanks

90 through 95, assuming that you're talking about a 22RE.

there's still an idle air valve, if that's what you're talking about.
the newer ones are heated by coolant instead of electrical so there are different coolant pipes to the heater, etc.
any particular reason why you want to loose the air valve?

Or are you referring to the air flow valve built in to the top of the air filter box? I don't think there is any way to get around that little design clusterf*^k. even the K&N FIPK uses that thing (I think).

If you're referring to the volume-air-flow-meter, VAFM or AFM for short, there have been people who have addressed its shortcomings. Google 22RE AFM MAF conversion. We've got a Yotatech member that frequents the 86-95 forum that has managed to build a working prototype as well, but it needs some fine tuning, and is as of now not cheap.
If one is serious about redesigning the stock EFI, both MegaSquirt and SDS are viable solutions that can be configured to do, and accomodate for, nearly anything.

that LCE system looks pretty sweet. between that, the mandrel intake tube, late model bored/port/polish TB and lower plenum conversion with kit goodies (stud kit, thermal barrier gaskets, clean balanced injectors), they have intake for this engine wired. you could buy a whole other beater 4runner for that kind of cash! i want it!

If you want to do a bit more reading. Read through this thread and in particular read the two links at the bottom of post #4.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...ht=22re+plenum

I have a 95 intake plenum, throttle body, and throttle cable sitting in a box and plan on doing this mod at some point. One word of caution, take the time to really clean the donor plenum and throttle body before you install it.

Post back if you do this mod and let us know how it went.
