1985 4 runner - 22RE engine - timing mark
My 1985 4 runner has the 22re engine and I am attempting to check the timing. My problem is that the previous owner or sombody broke the timing
mark plate off of the timing chain cover.
I can tell where the plate used to be as you can see the casting supports.
Could somebody post a close up picture of their timing marks ? I've set my timing by ear and it runs OK but I'd like to know that it's right by the light.
I am guessing where top dead center is - hopefully with a good picture I can mark my cover correctly. If the cover leaked - I'd just change it but it don't - so I'm leaving it alone.
If you have anyway of measuring from the side before taking the picture - That would be helpful. The FSM just shows the timing mark for reference
which won't help me without knowing where TDC is on my cover.

the timing mark is on the oil pump - it is only a few bolts and you can re use the gasket pretty easily.
TDC is at the 12 o clock position. 12* is about an inch left and 5* is about a quarter left - aproximately

I didn't realize that the timing mark is on the oil pump housing. I really meant to post a picture of what I'm dealing with before now - like I said - just when I think about it.
The runner is getting hard to start when cold - usually after sitting for a week or two. Once it finally starts - it will start with the turn of the key the rest of the day. The initial start may have the engine turning over for two three minutes before she finally starts. Thoughts ?
