How are you testing the functionality? I found two at the junkyard, and neither solved my issue. I hope it was just bad relays, but I would like to know for sure before tearing out the dash again.

Not sure about your model, but the 82 and 83 charge light relay isn't under the dash it's on the passenger side kick panel...no tools required, just reach up and pop it off. I'll check the FSM for detailed instructions to test it.

I'm looking at the gm one wire upgrade right now. I figured it would be a decent route to go with all of the extras I already put on the truck, and I'm still thinkin of adding more. It may or may not solve my problem, but it's happening anyway.

So, I got my GM 1 wire done yesterday afternoon and thought I'd add a few photos of how it turned out and what it did. I also removed the harness from the old alternator to the voltage regulator.
This is it installed, and the copper ground strap to the exhaust maifold.
But it didn't fix the problem. Both light still shined brightly, even though the swap solved the charging problem completely.
So I just took into my own hands to fix the light by removing the charge lamp relay alltogether, and now my dash doesn't bother me so much!
My only problem now is how to get rid of the brake light. I had to make my own e brake setup, but the sensor is still in place on the handle, maybe revove the wire from the sensor? If that does't work, I'll remove the bulb! But the battery is holding at 14.38 volts under a load, and the truck starts when I tell it to, so all in all, it's a win.
