my '83 p/u
first off im new to yt. I inherited my uncles 1983 toyota p/u and i need so ideas to help it run better and stronger. i need things to be cheap since im only 15 and dont have a job. the truck sat behide a barn since 1994 and has problems. it will crank but wont idle and now the freeze plug decided to spring a leak so im waitin to get a new one. so till i get that ive been searching it for other problems like rust. does any one no where some hidden spots are at for rust. i havent found any but on bolts, bed, and surface rust on the frame.
does any one know where i might find a good cheap long bed at in north carolina. i will hopefully get some pics up soon.

you will have to take your carb off and clean it, its prob gummed up from sitting, if yuo find a bed, it aint gonna be cheap. if you got deep pockets, they sell fiberglass beds

no deep pockets, but we are planning on getting a weber 32/36 for carb cuz we bought a rebuild kit took one look and i said forget it and my dad said maybe then a friend of ours who owns a shop said it would be best to go ahead and buy a new one.
so is the weber the best route or is there a better carb out there.

lol, depends, im too cheap for new, craigslist is good, my buddy just picked up a almost new one at junk yard for 40 bucks! ebay will work. check out redline performance, or weber direct

That's the right Weber kit, except that's the 2 piece spacer that is rather poorly cast and leaks often times. You should still get that kit, the other aftermarket adapters for the carb to the manifold won't have all the other goodies to hook up the pcv and stuff for the carb, just get either LCE's spiral bore adapter or the 1 piece adapter made by Trans-dapt. Summit and others have that one, LCE is the only one that carries the spiral bore. It's a 2 piece adapter, but machined instead of cast so it seals easily. And in the case you ever have to remove the carb, the top gasket is plastic, so it's reusable.
Get an adjustable regulator, too. Best recommendation there seems to be the Holley brand regulator.

I am running the stock gears and everything so I was wondering how much it might suffer in proformence when running 35" tires. Next what could I do that's cheap but can get me more power and fuel encomy. I am probably going to get a flat bed and put on it so how much will it suffer in proformence with the 35" or 32"

A LOT. My 83 was kind of a dog with 31's. I mean you can do it, lot's of people do, but you aren't going to be using 5th gear.
Best next mod, if you go with bigger tires, is the correct gears.

yesterday i tried to get the old freeze plug off but it dont wont to come off, so what is the best way to get it off? so far we put a hole bout the size of a dime and tried to pull but nothing. i have heard that you can take a flat head screw driver and hammer and tap on the lip of it till it is sideways and then you can pull it out? my dad said that seem impossible so is it or can it be turned in its spot then pulled out?

I have a 83 short box. I'm running 31 x 10.5's with a weber carb, full exhaust (2.5" all the way back), completely de-smogged and a 3" lift. I get consistently get fuel economy in the 20MPG neighborhood. My truck is a daily driver with 132,000 miles on a motor that has been been rebuilt. I don't do any crawling or anything crazy, but I take it on the beach, through the mud and hunting all the time with absolutely no problem. I've been places that Jeeps have been stuck in, but it's still practical for eveyday use at the same time. If MPG's are what you're going for then 35's are not for you. I switched to 31's about a month ago after having 33's and I'm getting an extra 5-6 MPG with the 31's, just food for thought.

i have been looking around on the internet and have found a website that might have a carb. that might work. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if any of the carb kits come with a one piece adapter or are they all a two piece adapter?
