my stick on my 82 works fine but when in gear it spins in circles.... Does any one know why?

if you are talking about the actual stick shifter you may have a broken shift tab on the end the sticks into the trans...other than that not sure...unless the shift knob is broken.

Maybe it's an 82 thing...I have the same issue on mine too but not on my 83. It's all wobbly when in gear but still works fine. Curious to hear what the gurus say.

The tranny is probably getting wore out.
and your tranny mounts might be getting soft. does the tcase do it too?

I feel more inclined to say it has something to do with where the stick shifter connects to the transmission rather than the transmission itself since the transmission shifts and works good.

Mine is working fine. the tranny mounts are a little soft therefore making
the tranny bounce around and make its feels a little wiggly.
i could be totally off.

There are some plastic cups in the top of the transmission that you can get to by pulling the shifter out that need to be replaced mine did the same thing. replaced them and it stopped the sloppy shifter syndrome.

YEP! BINGO, my buddy just said. He was reading yours, 82, but couldn't sign in for some reason... So he reminded me that He JUST replaced those while we were in the Shop he's working on it in..... that's an 87, but I believe those plastic things are still in yours. He put new ones in(had to get em at dealer) and now???? ''TOIGHT LIKE A TOIGER!" lol.

Hope that's the ticket for ya!

Marlin Shifter Bushing are a godsend...
I've put them in every Toyota manual transmission I've ever had, world of difference and gets rid of the "spinny shifter"

Get both and be done.

Seats are color coded by transmission year/type

Are you talking about the shifter actually rotating or are you describing the classic "stir the pot" while in gear, as my dad calls it?
