i bought a winch from him which i paid for through paypal on Nov29. I didn't hear from him for a while and when I did, he said that he was out of town for a family emergency (which i'm near positive was the truth). The last message I got from him was on Dec11 and he said he should be able to ship it within a week. He hasn't been online since the 17th and I haven't heard from him since his msg on the 11th. I'm in no rush to get it, I'd just like to know what's going on.

no, he says he's out of state (with no cell phone). i would assume if he was back home that he would be on yotatech.

filed a paypal claim, only because i'm nearing the 45 day period that paypal gives. after 45 days, i have no hope in getting my money back. i'm pretty sure harold will show up in the next little while and I will be happy to cancel the claim or resend payment.

with the help of someone else here on yotatech, i found him active on another forum. I joined, posted asking where my winch was and was prompty banned minutes after posting with my post erased. a few minutes after that, i get a PM from harold here on yotatech and a paypal refund with his explanation that the winch was stolen from his house during a break-in. If this is true, how long was he going to wait before refunding me (if at all) if he hadn't been found on another forum.

i definitely do not approve of his tactics and am glad we got him. There is nothing more i hate than someone getting scammed. Especially when he has frequented other forums recently. I am glad you got your money back and hope people like him dont last long, if at all, on this board.

I have requested a copy of the police report and an answer as to why my phone messages were not answered.

also, my refund isn't official until the funds clear his account. if i get dinged paypal fees for the refund and/or going back into my bank account, i will not be satisfied.

That sucks man. I'm glad you did finally track him down. If you went on the board the was posted before (I won't name names) but they do seem a little ban happy sometimes. Either way, glad you got your money back (at least, I hope it clears). I agree to hold the heat on him for a reasonable explanation with proof. This kind of stuff is ridiculous.
