UT 2004 Frag Fest

Friday night May 20th @ 7 PM PST if anyone is interested.
I will be hosting on my PC since we do not have a dedicated server from anyone set up.

What you need:
1. Full version of Unreal Tournament 2004
http://www.unrealtournament.com/index.php

2. Bonus pack which includes more maps, and may include some that I have loaded to play.
Well this is screwy, they took it off of their site, but it is listed.
http://www.unrealtournament.com/ut2004/downloads.php
I did find it listed on Gamers Hells page, so get it there.
http://www.gamershell.com/news/17465.html
It is suppose to be installed before the patch in step 3.

3. Newest patch is version 3355, and not version 3339 which they show on ther download page above.
Someone is not updating their site correctly, bad, bad, bad...
Get 3355 here.
http://www.unrealtournament.com/news/view.php?id=2578

They list several servers to choose from, but most make you join or pay.
Skip that, and choose The Gamers Hell link to get it for free.
http://www.gamershell.com/news/20384.html

4. You will need my IP adress, so PM me around 6:30 to 6:45 PM for it, a little before the matches will begin.

In 2006 they will release UT 2007 which will include the Unreal 3 engine which is better than the Unreal 2 engine which UT 2003 & 2004 use.

What?
No one here plays UT 2004?
Great game, and at a good price too since this came out last year.

Built in MP3 player in the game lets you play any MP3 file on your 'puter while playing the game.

Check out this 8.7 MB vid I made of the game with an MP3 playing.

Vid was 2.5 GB, and Windows Movie Maker compressed it down.
Viewable full screen, but a little grainy.

You will not be able to connect to me with that patch.
All PCs must be running the current patch, or you will get a connection error.

Sorry I missed you Steve, I had a blast, no pun intended
I might play tonight, but I have a few DVDs to catch on:
Assault on Precinct 13, and Team America.

Besides joining via my IP, I have my game set to advertise on the main UT2004 server as well, it lists it as YotaTech in the list.

Also putting up some free advertising for the forum here when someone joins.

Data, it would be cool if you could set this game up on that server you used before for the older UT.
My cable connection can get laggy if more than 4 humans are in the game.

I still play the older UT a bit, but I feel the newer 04 one is much better after you get use to it.
Besides the graphics being better, it has many advantages such as playing your own tunes in the game and text to voice chat, and real time voice chat with other players.

I'll see if I can pick up a copy of UT 2004 while I'm out today. I shouldn't have a problem setting up that server again. I'll see what I can do

Sounds good Danny.
Make sure you install the bonus pack after the game, then update it to 3355 as above.

I will list some good team deathmatch maps too here later.
I have about 6 in rotation.
I got tired of playing capture the flag all the time, and there are some good maps that are just for team play.

I also have 3 mutators on all the time:
1. Instagib, the modified shock rifle that kills in one hit, and blows 'em up into bloody chunks.
I am more of a fan of this weapon that the others where it takes numerous shots to take someone out.

2. Bighead, person with most points gets a huge swelled head.

3. Low gravity, where when you jump, it is like jumping on the moon.
Good for getting on top of stuff.

Map list

Danny, here are some good maps I have set up for Team Deathmatch.

The first one called Plunge I never played before until a bit ago.
Very cool map, below is an 8 mb video compressed down from 5 or so GB, so it is a bit grainy, and best viewed not full screen.

Let us know here if you can get a server set up.
I am up for a game for an hour or so next Friday if we can all get together.

I'm getting 2004 tomorrow. I'll try to get the server up and running during this week. I might need some help on testing. I'll send you a PM once I get it set up.

Sounds good.
Looking forward to a few of us from the forum here getting our game on.

Been playing this game off and on all weekend.
I really dig this game, and it is one of my favorites.

The server is being set up as I type. Testing will be tonight or tomorrow. I'll PM you with the details, because I will probably need someone to help test it out. Bandwidth should be fine. Connection will be a partial OC3 at 20mbps.

i'm having some issues installing the dedicated server, so it might be late tonight or tomorrow before testing can begin.

Sounds good Danny, eager to try it.
I have another favorite map, it is called Tokara Forest.
It is in the video a few posts above this if you did not see the vid yet.
I am having fun making these vids

I mislabed that post above by stating the map is called Plunge, but it is not.
Plunge is a different map.
I will fix the post above to reflect this.

Should be some info on some didicated gaming forums on how to set the server up.
Here is a UT forum I have used in the past.
They also have a regular UT forum for the older game too.
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums...hp?forumid=249

And their server section for UT 2004.

Danny, a few other things to think about.

1. In the admin panel for the game there is a check box to advertise your server, or even just a game you host on your PC like I do to advertise it or not on Unreals Master Server list when someone searches for a multiplayer game.

To save your server from getting tons of hits if it is indeed very fast (word spreads fast in the gaming community about fast low ping rate servers) you can uncheck it.

or...

2. Create a password to join in the game, something simple like yotatech

How is the server coming?
I have been busy re-editing some of my MP3s for the game.
The built in MP3 player does not like some tunes, and I read on Atari's forum it has something to do with the ID tags of the tunes.

I opened up a few of them that would not play before in the game with Nero's Wave Editor app and resaved them as a 128 constant bit rate, and now they work fine.

UTs built in music is great, but I prefer to listen to some jammin' MP3s instead when in the game.

Well I've been trying to install the dedicated server free version that is available on their site, but I'm not having any luck at all. I might have to build another server to host this on. The one I'm using has a crappy video card and it won't even allow me to run the game at all. That is why I opted for the free dedicated version.

Hmmmmm, I think the game when you set it up you can tell it to run in software mode instead of hardware mode.
This is for PCs that do not have a dedicated gaming card.

Also when running the server, the game does not even have to be showing on the monitor, it runs in the taskbar I believe.

That is the way a lot of dedicated servers run.
Mine will run that way if I tell it to for the game.

Here are two screen shots.
It puts a little icon to the far left of the clock in the sys tray.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/gaming/ut...ted_server.jpg
http://www.pnw4runners.com/gaming/ut...ed_server2.jpg

From that icon you can control everything that is going on in the game without actually being in it.
Is this how you had setup the older Unreal when you were hosting it, or did you just let the game run full screen all the time?
