Might need to thow in a cheap vid card that supports Direct X then.
Any of the older NVIDIA FX5200s or ATI 9200s would support it.

I'm working with two different machines right now. One has the dedicated version of UT on it and the other I'm just beginning to set up. I will keep you updated on how things go.

I'll check it out. I can't even connect to it from my LAN, so I'm not sure what it is....

Played Robinhood 150 last night, a lot of fun.

A guy who co runs a dedicated Counter Strike Source server in WA. state with member Drew I talked to earlier today.

He has a spare server that he is running from the University of Washington campus, and he is going to try and put UT 2004 on it today.
If he is successful, I will post the IP here later, and we can try this out tonight.

Server is setup

The Counter Strike Source server that member Drew and the guy from the UW runs, the guy from the UW just set us up with a UT 2004 server for awhile on a seperate server than their CSS one.

It is setup for Team Death Match or will be with a few mutators on:
1. Low gravity
2. Big head
3. Instagib shock rifle

I tested the server and it seems very fast.
He is still working on a few things to get it so it runs great.

Enter this IP and port # by copying/pasting into the Favorites area when you click on "Join Server" when you start up the game.
128.208.87.37:7787

Anytime someone here wants to play, gimme a shout here or via PM.

An update

The owner of this server I am trying to get in touch with to fix a few things still.

1. Low gravity is not yet turned on for high jumping.
2. Forced respawn is active, and it should be turned off to allow the option to push fire to respawn yourself.
3. Pushing F4 for 3rd person view is turned off, it should also be active.
4. He has it set for dedicated death match, when it should be set to team death match.

All in all though, I am getting a very low ping rate, and the server responds very fast.

Lets try to get a game going next Friday night?
Map voting is turned on, so someone can change maps if they desire.
We will probably have a password setup too, this is to keep the server from getting over crowded.

Update...

The server owner is working with me still to get this thing setup just right.
It is good to go with the exception of team play.
When you enter a game, they are all death match.
Hopefully he will get it set up for team death match today or tomorrow.

I am up for a game Friday night around 7 PM PST again.

This server will be taken down within a month after he leaves the UW until the fall.
I will be looking into perhaps getting a dedicated server from a gaming outfit to host this game on after I get back to Boeing.

Here are some movie files I found in the maps folder which I converted over to WMV (around 5 MB or so) to view.

So lets see a show of hands here who can make it this coming Friday.

I still am not having any luck getting it to run. I might just have to stick some sort of pci based video card in that machine...

Good luck on that Danny, do not give up yet, as this server that I had setup is not permanent, but man, does it ever smoke!
At least for me, since the server is about 25 miles from me.

He finally got it setup just right the way I like it.
Low grav is on, team play, instagib, ect...
But I think he has the bots on above average.

When I host a game I have the bots on average and I can get off some good kills.
The bots he has in the game are dancing and jumping all around like Mexican jumping beans, and they will not hold still

If anyone here gets a chance to to play, report back here how the server is working for you.

He does have some custom maps that he must have got elsewhere, as they are not part of the original game or the bonus pack.
Some of the maps are between 5 and 15 MB, but it goes quick with broadband.
I am afraid if you are on dialup, you are screwed if a custom map comes up for rotation.

But anyway, I am looking very forward to a shoot out this coming Friday night.
What a great way to relieve stress from a very hard week of work.

Update:
You must have two more bonus packs installed to play, or you will have to DL many files which are quite big when you join his server.

There are two more bonus packs that I was unaware of.
They are listed as Community bonus packs One & Two here in the list on the right side.

I got a nice video card today for the server. I'm going to install it tomorrow and see what happens. I'll keep you informed. I will be out of town this weekend. Heading to Orlando for the Microsoft TechEd.

Have fun there Danny.

What kind of vid card did you get?

I think there are two ways you can run that server.
1. Run it in dedicated mode so it runs on the desktop of the PC.
You will not have remote control of it though.

2. Run the software for a dedicated server.
From what Vladd has been telling me, when he had to fix all the things I wanted to make his server do that he has up now, he has to edit some huge config file.
It is not like using remote software I do not think.

Like for instance when you push F4, that is 3rd person view so you can see yourself.
I tried it, no workie.
He had to edit a line in the config file called:
"behindrearview=true"
or something like that.

I am sure you can get more help on the server thing from that forum link I gave you earlier in this thread.

By the way, his server for the game is running on one of these small shuttle small form factor PCs.

It was also his Counter Strike Source server until Drew anted up the bones for that server where they are now hosting CCS.

Just got UT2k4 installed today. I havn't had this, let alone any game, installed on my system for months, maybe a year.

When it first came out I set up a dedicated server and it was quite easy, but I don't know what's changed. I wonder if they have an x64 version, seeing as I have access to a server running Windows 2003 x64. I can look into this if it won't steal your thunder Data.
