Power Antenna Will Not Stop

Power Antenna Will Not Stop
Ok, the nylon cable on the antenna of my 97 4runner broke, so I replaced it. It worked great for a few days, but now I have a problem: when I turn the radio on, the antenna goes up, but when it is fully extended the motor continues to run for about 15 seconds, grinding gears. Going down the motor stops fine. Does anyone know how I can get the motor to stop when the antenna is extended like it used to? thanks

Search "Tacoma whip mod".
I'll never understand why anyone goes through the trouble and money to replace a crappy mechanism with the same motorized POS.... https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/cost-retractable-antenna-87721/

I was going to disconnect the power at the antenna. Has anyone done that? Is it accessible from under the splash cover under the fender. Just trying to save time because it is hot as hell out.

Antenna Grinding Noise
I had the same thing happen to my 99 4 Runnner SR5 that happened to you. My old power antenna mast had a broken nylon gear cable and quit working.
I bought a replacement from Bridgewood Motorsports (www.antennamastsrus.com) and after I installed it, whenever the antenna would raise, after it reached its full height the motor would keep running for about 15 seconds and make a horrible grinding noise. I tried removing and reinstalling the antenna mast about 5 times and the grinding noise kept happening.
I contacted Bridgewood by e-mail, they said that once inawhile the nylon gear cable doesn't seat itself properly, and that if I returned the antenna they'd send me a replacement. I did, and they sent a new one with instructions to make sure the nylon gear cable had the teeth pointed towards the front of the vehicle when it was inserted. I did, and the new one has worked fine ever since.
Sounds like a teeth alignment problem.
