Angry Broken Ring Gear

I broke a spider in the front this week and ruined my ring and pinion. My runner is sitting in the garage and will not work untill I replace the entire guts of the differential. I dropped the entire front drive train. The good news is that I have had the down time to install my 2 inch RB body lift, rebuild my winch and paint both bumpers. I am ordering a Detroit TrueTrac ($334.99) and 4.88 Gunuine Gears ($310) from Drivetrain Warehouse today or tomorrow. Does any one know of any better prices or places to get this stuff from?

Hey Jon, sorry to hear about you bad luck. But that's awsome that you had the time to get the BL lift done and now your going to be double locked soon enough. All things happen for a reason. There is one place that MIGHT have better prices. I know when I was looking around at double ARB packages they had the best prices by far, $1500 compared to $2000 from most. So give them a look see and see if they have any better prices: Gears & Rears Good luck.

Sorry Dave its already done!! The only thing left to fo is put my TJM back on but I am in no hurry cause my truck not moving. It was easy and only took 15 minutes with 2 Hi Lifts and air tools. The gears and stuff should be here soon but for now it looks like I got to drive the F150

Oh boy, so when I decide to do a BL looks like I know where I'm going to go! Sorry to hear about your front end, but I guess it will be good to have the truetrack. I have to replace my steering rack. Any tips? It doesn't seem to hard other than the fact that I need to get it alligned after. How bad is it? Thanks J!

Oh and...

I am ordering gears sunday if Dennis from Drivetrain Warehouse is working cause he told me he would have all my stuff I needed for $895.95 $40 bones less than anywere else. Free shipping probibly means that it won't be shipped next day
BL makes the Runner look stout.
Steering rack was a bitch the first time. there is little room between the diff and the fluid connections. It is only about 4 bolts and disconect the tie rods (puller needed). It slides into a bracket in the middle of the frame so you can not put it in at an angle. I got my rack from a Toyota salvage yard for dirt cheep off a 97 Taco and it was in perfect alignment when I put it on.

Hum....
Do you think I should tackle the problem myself? I don't have all my tools, just basicly sockets or should I let a place put it on. Where did you get yours from? Was it local for you? Do they have a # or website or email I could reach them at? Thanks j,

$120 from Salvage Auto Supply (Big Selection of Toyota Parts) 122 Atando Ave Charlotte NC (704)333 1007. The owner is a slacker and likes to be paid before he pulls the part.
It is hard to loosen all the bolts cause of tight spaces. All you really need are metric sockets and wrenches and a lot of spare time. If you put your starter in by yourself than everything else is cake, hell that was the hardest thing I have done so far.......

I'll second that... that's a PITA. Good luck w/ your install w/ gears and LSD... you'll enjoy that once it's in. Good call on the RB BL as well... he makes nice stuff... Looks like you'll have clearance for 35's soon...

He probably already does with all that pounding hes done on that thing to get the 305s to fit with the winch and tjm. Thanks for the number, I'll have to give him a call. I might just wing it and wait until I get home so I don't have to pay shipping. Not to mention have my dad's help in getting it on

Ok I went with a whole new 7.5 differential with the truetrac and Yukon 4.10 gears. I didn't want to rebuild my rear axle cause that would take alot more cash:pat: The pumkin comes complete all I need to do is pop on my old output shaft and fill it up with fluid. In all actuality I didn't ever have a problem with low end torque with the factory 4.10. And after the 2lo mod I feel it it unessesarry to regear. This truck is suppose to be my dailly driver so regearing will decrease the performance of the vehicle at highway speeds. So I guess the only thing I have to do with the rear end is fill it with Mobil 1. Will post pic of my runner tonight:alien:
