TH350/TH400 Behind a toyota engine
After I searched, I only found a few vague referances to putting a chevy auto behind a toyota engine and I wasn't sure where to post this.
So, I'm sure someone's put a Chevy auto behind a Toyota motor. Is there a kit for it? Do you have to make an adapter yourself? Is there a decent Toyota auto that someone would recommend? I plan on running a 3.4, or maybe a 5mge. I'm trying to do do it for simplicity. The truck is a Class 7 desert racer, and I'd rather drive the truck with an auto. Atleast in the short course races. Thanks Last edited by HardCharger81 : 07-27-2008 at 04:24 PM. |

your gonna have to source and adapter from a company or make your own! Ive never heard about that adapter so Im not sure if its even out there. Also what kind of motor you plan to run auto or manual ECU wise? I dont know how you would wire that

That's a rather odd combo. Its more common to have a Chevy engine and a Toyota transmission.
How come a Chev transmission?

Yeah an R150F or 151 would be perfect for that 3.4

I actually have a R151 sitting in my garage.
I understand that its a weird combo, and I'm still mot sure if I'm going to pursue it. Here in NorCal, our desert racing season consists of a mixture of short coarse CORR style tracks, and long point to point races. My idea was, because the transmission's are open but the engine has to match the body, that I could switch to a TH350 and make the truck easier to drive. A side benefit would but the ease of finding and upgrading a TH350, vs replacing/repairing a R151 if I did kill it. Lemme know what you guys think. This is my first Toyota build, and I'm open to advise/critisim. Is there a good Toyota auto? Is there a place to look for upgraded parts, torque converters, etc? The A340H 4 speed came stock for alot of Toyota motors, including the 3.4
IIRC... I'm even pretty sure thats what's behind the 4.7 in my Tundra. They seem pretty reliable (put it this way, I've never seen a junk one), and can handle power. Only thing is, you'll probably go through Hell trying to upgrade one.

The toyota trans that came behind the 3.4 is stout. Check IPT for trans upgrades. Check out AA if you still want to look into the TH350. R151's are nice, but he specified he wanted to go auto.

Look at my post in the fab shop.
I'm currently swapping my R150F for an A343F (Almost the same that an A340F). I'm controlling it with a SupraStick from Latent Solutions so I can program the gear shifts and also drive it like a manual w/o clutch. David

Its as simple as clutch in- gas out, gas in- clutch out lol. Can't stand manu-matics, but sounds like a very interesting project.
