Regearing Tacoma electric locker, pinion problem.
Hi there! I have toyota electric locker I would like to regear to 4.88 ratio. I got V6 Yukon gear, unfortunately companion flange spline on the pinion shaft from Yukon is smaller than one from e-locker.
Should I got companion flange and nut from open diff V6 or there is more involved in it? Thanx.

Hi ZUK.
There is a pleasure of modifying stuff. Just hate to be pioneer ...
I got my locker out of TRD Tacoma, according to knowledge circulating alround enthusiasts, it should be the same as 4runner one.
To test that claim, I ordered OEM pinion bearings and diff gasket from 2000 4Runner. Parts were the same as the one in Tacoma locker and gasket fit the Tacoma locker.
I think Toyota modify the pinion in late models for greater strenght. Spline diameter is 29.5mm, thread diameter 22mm spline count 29. Contrary to what I belive is V6 gears from Yukon (part number YG TV6-488) having 27.5mm spline, 20mm thread and 27 spline count.
One thing I can think off is to order companion flange and nut from 4Runner. Hope it fits OK otherwise I be a proud owner of quite expensive pile of parts :pat:

I have had Yukon 5.29's in my E-Locker since 2002. There is an E-locker master install kit and a standard 8" V6 install kit.
Make sure you have the e-locker install kit. Your not a pioneer by any means, hundreds of us have re-geared e-lockers.

I know I`m language challenged and my English is not that good so your confusion sschafer is easly explained. There is particular problem on hand with my late model Tacoma TRD E-Locker sschafer, never before reported. Not even gearhead like ZUK is aware of it. I need solution to that spline problem.
You say there is a E-Locker master instal kit that includes companion shaft and nut? Is that right?

It should be the same as all the ones we have. I don't know, but many of us have re-geared the e-lockers.
There is a seperate master install kit for the e-locker, but they do use the same R&P as the standard V6 8" diff.
