need to make the 94 offroad worthy on 200 bucks, but how? street legal not an issue

hey all, gonna make the 94 offroad ready and "capable" now that i have the taco, what should i do for 200 bucks, thinking 3" body lift, now sway bar, torque torsion(just a little bit though) and mabey weld up the rear end. to get the truck to the trail, i plan on using a tow dolly, but if the truck has a lincoln locker, will i be able to, i was thinking just tow it backwards but dont know anything about tow dollys. anyways whats cheap, but worth doing to make the truck better offroad, remeber only have 200 bucks, thanks

weld front and rear diffs, just dont flat tow it, a dolly will work good enough. spend more than $200, and get a cage. i know you said just 200, but this will be the most important mod, this way you can wheel the piss out of this truck, and not really worry.

sawzall all fender openings, remove the sway bar completely, cut down your existing bumpstops, and in a while, get a set of used 33's or 35's from your local paper for dirt cheap.

if you do this, and are obviously not afraid of body dammage, you can run alongside just about everything.

ok from what you said this is what will be completed in the next 4 days, grind all fender openings that rub, already has 32X11.5's if i have to sawzall so be it, (ill borrow one from someone i guess, i dont own one ) then im gonna give the rear a lincoln locker but not the front, (wanna be able to turn) the swaybar will be taken out tommorow. the cage will come later, for now just a bar. thanks
later

if your 94 is a truck, you could sell the bed, and use that money to make a flat bed or something...just a thought

I have a set of 35's for sale. I had them on my 94 4Runner...

Downey HD rear springs, crank torsion bars, remove sway bars, UK Myers airbox mod, and weld the rear diff. Welding the front will make steering next to impossible in tight areas on the trail. Everything is free except the springs.

Like Victor said, don't weld the front. Besides making steering impossible...you will break a CV for sure.

I don't want to sound like a "mom" but be sure and take it easy while you wheel. 4x4-ers don't need more stuff to give them a bad rap. $200 certainly isn't enough to make it an awesome rig, but a few key things could get you on the right track. If you are serious about wheeling, you'll drive it like you intend on driving it for the next 20 years.

Don't just be another shot-up old beater that's abandoned on the trails.

If you go with manual hubs then you can weld your front diff and still turn. You just have to get out and unlock one hub when you want to turn, could be a pain in the butt, but people do it. People also say you tend to break fewer CVs when you're locked up front because you can do obstacles slower. Either way, you should be carrying an extra CV.

Lose the swaybar, weld up the rear end (weld the spiders together, DO NOT WELD TO THE CAST METAL), and trim any sheetmetal that rubs. Body lift if you really want, but remember the more you do the harder and more expensive it'll be. I'd just do 1-2" if I were you. Then save your money for safe well thought out non-half-assed mods down the road.

That's true. Wade, you probably even want to do a snorkel with dryer hose and PVC pipe .

well, i plan on taking the 200 and doing this with it.

first thing is repair my blown head gasket i just found out with, cost, 50 $

now im at 150

next, weld the rear diff. cost free
still at 150

next i plan on buying a snorkel ie: go to lowes
cost, 40. (probably to much but hey i like to plan big!)

leaves me at 110.

removing all unwanted sheetmetal free
removing swaybar free
body lift it outta the qestion. (higher center of gravity)

the rest of the 110 will be split into 2 catagories.

55 to the bank

and ill away the rest.
just kidding. ill probably save the money for gas and just in case stuff happens.....sad to say though i dont see myself making it to pnwyj.....to little time to lil money! anyways, im gonna try, any other ideas on what i could do let me know. free is me.

Hey now, don't say that! I'm gonna be there, SAS or not and at this point undoubtedly only 2wd cause there ain't no way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks that I'm gonna have a front shaft in time even if I do somehow miraculously manage to get the swap done.

but does anyone have any ideas how much it is to rent a tow dolly somewhere? i dont have a trailer or dolly yet!

and also, if i weld my rear end, will i still be able to pull it without a trailer (IE: tow dolly) or what? thanks
