Downey IFS Lift

Does anyone have any experience or opinions of Downey's 86-95 IFS lift? Any comments would be great. Thanks.

I guess I had the rear half on my '91 Xcab. I had the 2" over rear springs, Doeschtech shocks all around. Downey sent front shocks on the stiffer side and softer shocks in the back, and it evened out the whole truck! Off road, the springs were very flexable, I was very happy with the truck after that.

I have the Downey/Rancho lift. It is basically the Rancho upper a-arms. It gives you about a 3-3 1/2" lift and a few more inches of travel. I'm not sure how much. I have fiberglass fenders. I would not pay the retail price. If you can get it used and cheap buy it. If not, go with Total Chaos or SAS. I will be going to the Total Chaos Caddy kit. Good luck

Did you do the full Downey kit which includes swapping the axle halfs?

Thanks.

No you do not need the high $$$ axles from Downey. I have never had any problems with my stock half shafts. And I have hammered on them. I forgot to mention I also have a double shock hoop.

Are you looking at a used kit or brand new?

I am still not sold on keeping the IFS. I am strongly considering going to a solid axle. I've had a lot of trouble with the idler arm and the ball joints with this IFS. I'm trying to justify spending the extra ~$1000 for a whole axle, especially because I do a decent amount of highway driving.

IFS Downey TOYS

hey I have a 91 Runner with a Tuff Country 4 " Susp. I have been seriously wondering about the Downey lift. So what all is involved? I am guessing its the spacer kit that fits in over the rear springs but what all is done to the front. It looked like someone said stiffer shocks but how can that be? I was thinking the torsion bars unfortunatly would have to be cranked up. That is why I have not shopped around for that Downey kit. Fill me in so I can go max out another credit card. Ben
