Dog restraints?

I know its not really offroad tech but its related. Now that I have two pups I need some method of securing the two monkies in the back seat on wheeling trips. My main concern is that they have enough room to sit or lay down but not enough slack to tangle themselves up.

I've seen some pretty neat systems for the back of trucks but not anything that would work in the rear seats of a 4runner. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or home brew setups.

We always keep the rear seats folded flat and the dogs are free to move around the back. If it gets too rough for them they lay down, but most of the time they are hanging their heads out the windows. If you're wanting to keep them confined/secured you could look into a pet barrier that goes behind the back seats. Lots of companies make them, but beware some are much better than others.

Also try googling dog seat belt. There's a ton of them.

I liked this one, though I'd do more research....

saw this little blurb:
'In 2002 Toyota Motor Corp. took a major step promoting safer driving with dogs by offering our CHAMPION Canine Seat Belt System & Truck Restraint in their accessory catalog.'

Yea you can get seatbelt harnesses for dogs of almost any size. Try your local pet store.

I used a simple seat belt mount restraint with a full body harness. Damn lab was so obedient I ordered her out of the truck one day without unclicking her, she jumped and ended up swinging in the doorway in her harness. Stupid me. After that she wouldn't jump out until I made sure she was unclicked.
It gave her lots of room to move, no worries about tangles with the full body harness. Thankfully it never got put to any emergency uses so can't comment on that aspect. The universal seat belt mount came with 2 bars, which moved from my Sidekick to my Jeep and then to the 'Runner. Between the 2 bars I was always able to find the one that mtached that buckle.
