One of my mechanic friends was dead aginst cutting it off becouse he said the small engine with high miles needed back pressure. Is he as crazy as I thought he was?

Well if you dont need them. A lot of people run staright exhaust(no cats) It can sound cool, or can sound like crap. But if yu want to run no cats, heres some ways to do it.

goto the junkyard and find valve covers off of an older truck that have "NON-CATYLYST" on the emmisions sticker. either put them on your truck and take off the cats or if you have special covers on your engine just put them behind the seat
^ you can get away with that. If you get pulled over for no cats, show the cop the valve covers.

OR YOU COULD TRY

buy a universal fit cat (small and cheap), and beat the outta the honeycomb with a big prybar and a hammer. eventually it'll poke through, and you can wallow the honeycomb out till it all falls out

^ THIS IS ILLEGAL. You can get away with it though. You still ahve a CAT but there is nothing in it.

DONT FLAME ME FOR TELLING HIM HOW TO BEAT THE COPS, THATS JUST WHAT WE DO OUT IN THE PINES.

chances are, you will get a boost in power without the cat, esp if it is the original its probably clogged. however, its not necessarily the cops you need to worry about but state inspections. if you dont have a cat on there chances are you wont be able to pass state inspections.

you could always hollow it out so you will pass the visual inspection, but as stated earlier, its better to just get a new cat so it will flow.
