Chemical like odor when accelerate 02 sequoia
Hey guys, I have a 2002 Sequoia SR5 that once in a while generates a strong chemical like smell when I accelerate while going uphill. Very weird. It seems to be happening more frequent.
No warning lights at all, no hesitation, and idles normal. My experience tells me it could be Oxygen Sensor, but then again where are my warning lights (Check Engine light). I am puzzled.
I was wondering if someone had similar experience that may be able to shed some light.
Thanks.

Same thing happens to me in my 4runner, as well as when I drive my mom's sequoia. They only do it when the motor is under strain, like accelerating quickly up a long hill. My 4runner has done it as long as I can remember for the past 6 years, I always thought it was just some of the oil on the block burning off. Who knows, but just letting you know you're not alone.

Wish I could help more, alas I'm not familiar with the Sequoia. Although I did read something... somewhere about this "sulfur/rotten egg" smell and most of the causes were pinned on the CATALYTIC CONVERTER. Many people were surprised at having to replace this part when the vehicle was basically brand new. There may have been a recall for this.. I remember it being a big deal. I recommend you call Toyota's service center and addressing the issue with them. I imagine on such a new vehicle, there should be service warranties, etc to take care of this issue. That's all I got, good luck

That is exactly what it does (Stockwell45), just like your trucks. I too have a 02 Runner but that one seems to be fine.
I am in the hunt for the solution to this chemical smell. I have read about the Catalytic and will look into it, that may be the culprit since there are no warning lights.
