The 4wd has been acting weird lately on my 95 T100. If I start the truck cold or let it sit for 1/2-1hr and go from 2H to 4H 4wd engages and the 4wd light comes on. If I take the truck down the road for a drive then decided to ˟˟˟˟ from 2H to 4H stopped or rolling the 4wd light doesn't come on and the 4wd doesn't engage. I have found this after getting stuck in the mud. When the light does come on the 4wd works great. Has anyone else run into something similiar to this?

check and see that the wiring harness is clean and still attached to the front differential

Make sure that the vacum lines to engage the frontend are in good shape (on one trail ride I broke the one that engaged the four wheel drive) and that the vacum solenoids are working. Also at times it may take some time for the everything to line up, so shift it and see if engages after a few feet. Also make sure that the truck is making a good vacum signal because that is what truly engages the fourwheel drive.

So far I have checked the vacuum lines and they all are getting suction. Any other possibilities?

The slider inside of the axle may be stickey then. Try taking it out. It shouldn't be too bad (four bolts I think). Also change your gear oil when you are in there. If there is any water or other types of debris in there, it could mess stuff up.

Did you check to see if you have vacum on both lines at the same time. If that was happening then the slider can't move. In that case the controller is bad. Just something else to look into.

I finally got a chance to change the front differential oil, and test drive. I was a bit sckeptical that changing the oil would solve the problem, but so far it seams to have worked.
