goodbye 4Runner, hello Landcruiser

Sold my 4Runner "Beatrice" yesterday. She was a great truck and I'll miss her, but the new owner is a guy much like myself and I think the truck will get used properly and taken out camping and wheeling lots.

Out with the old:

In with the new:

I think I'll name it Colonel Hathi (from the Jungle Book)

I wanted something a little bigger, the 4Runner gets pretty loaded down when camping for a couple days with more than just me in the truck. Also, diesel>>>>> gas IMHO and only 500 Cruisers like that were ever brought to North America, more than 25 years ago- if I want a diesel HJ60, the time is now.

awe man... I worked on prolly the ONLY 3B(T) 60 series in Nashville today and KNEW I shoulda snapped a few pics...

It was tricked out and would give you an idea of what your truck would look like should you lift, tire, ARB, and roof rack it...

dag nabbit! And I'm SOOOOO jealous... A Diesel...

This guy's getting 18 - 20 out if his but he added a Turbo and turned the fuel up...

Want pics? I can try to get some, but I should be working on it and a lifted 80 next weekend...

that thing is sick. are you going to lift it a bit? i could see it lifted a bit with 35s. that bumper reminds me of some old school military pumper.

eventually, i'll probably lift it 3-4" to fix that departure angle, but lifting with leaf springs is pricey- Old Man Emus apparently last the longest and ride the best, and for all 4 spring, shocks, shackles, bushings, its going to cost around $1500-2K to lift. I'm going to deal with the frame rust first, and then a rear Aussie locker, on board air, then a lift.

The 60 series frames were really rust-prone, much more so than the fj55s and minitruck frame it would appear.

Its diesel, non-turbo, so no accessories, carb... stuff that adds bulk around the engine. The 2H a 4.0L motor, as is the 3FE.

.....................2H................vs............3FE
displacement...3980cc..........................395 5cc
bhp................103 @3500rpm...............155 @4200
torque............177 @2000 ....................220@2200
bore x stroke...91x102mm.....................94x95mm

Video of the 2H running smoooooooth

Properly done, spring-over-axle is the same money and more work- cutting and turning the axle housing to regain caster after setting up the pinion angle. I don't have a welder so thats out.
