FJ40 Start help

Just purchased a 75FJ40. 117k. It has been sitting for 8 months outside in Southern California. It turns over with starting fluid help but stalls out. Could it just be bad gas? Any tips to get it going?

Drain any old gas out of the tank for starters .
Then ,refill it , see if your getting good fuel pressure to the engine .
I would also change the fuel filter .

Then try starting it after that.

Pull the fuel line before the fuel pump. Drain the fuel out of the bowl by loosening up one of the two 12mm (horizontal) bolts on the front of the carb. Then you can dump a little gas in to see if it fires up.

Carb might be gummed up, fuel filter clogged/line or crappy gas. There is also a drain plug on the bottom side of the tank.

Well the truck is home...but It still requires gas being poured into the carb to fire up. Fuel filter seems clean and it runs like a champ once it starts. I was thinking of maybe using some Seafoam maybe because the carb is gummed up. Make sense? Any other advice?

Ya try the sea foam. Choke hooked up and working? You should see it moving if you have someone else operate it in the cab. They always need some choke to start when they are cold. Also are you getting a couple shots from the accelerator pump into the venturies before you try to start it? You should see some fuel squirt out into the carb.
