Just wanted anyone's advice on what gears to run in the for a 1996 Toyota 4Runner running 33x12.5 tires...4.88s?

Stock. You dont really need the gears unless you go to 35 or bigger. Do you wheel the rig much? Do you just want the low end power. Ide stay stock unless you really need anymore low end. get some headers, exhaust and intake and youll be good unless you want more

I wheel here and there...not as much as I am supposed to...my runner is also my daily driver and probably looking for that low end power...I just wanted to know if re-gearing might maintain some stock performance and keep my gas consumption down? If I really do not need to re-gear I might as well put the money elsewhere!

You don't need new gears unless you wanna get a consistant 10 MPG. 4.56's are a good medium.

I ran stock 4.30's with 285's for about a year in my 99' highlander series and got 16 MPG during that time. I now run 4.88's with 285 and now get 18 MPG with more low end. Its much much better now. RPM's on the highway are acceptable. They now run about 400 RPM higher than before.

I appreciate everyone's input...but now the debate extends into 4.56s or 4.88s...I've heard good things on both ends, but 4.88s may fulfill what I need; which is better mpg and at the same time some improvement in performance (correct me if I am wrong)

I just installed my 4:56s. From what I been told, they would work the best with your size tire and if it's a daily driver with little off road.

What are some reputable gears that are consistent in performance and construction? I'm looking are genuine or precision.....
