Water pump and timing belt
Hi All,
Just curious if the same thing ever happened to any of you:
I had the timing belt and water pump replaced about 20k ago on my 92 4runner. The new belt
got distroyed within 20k because a pin
worked itself loose from the water pump and started chewing on the belt.
I'm just curious if that could be attributed to poor installation, or part failure.
thanks,
bruno.

I had a friend help me tow it to a local mechanic. The mechanic was very careful not to point fingers and pretty much told me that I'd be out of luck trying to get the original shop to foot the bill if they didn't want to.
So at this point I'm just curious. Luckily
the belt failed in a way that didn't cause
head damage.

You engine is non-intrusive, which is what saved you. Otherwise you would have a pandora's box filled with valve train parts right now.
Hope everything works out for you.
