Mine came with that from the dealer. I really had no choice nor do I think it would help if my rig was stolen.

Some insurance companies offer a discount on your policy if you have etched glass, security systems. If you add these devices, tell your agent, you may be eligible for a discount. It may be only 5-10% but every little bit helps.

We received a discount on one of our cars for the automatic seatbelt restraints.

Normally this would be a good idea, however the dealers charge around $700 or more in some cases. The dealer figures that the customer will just roll it in to the financing, thus it will go unnoticed. Yeah, that sounds good. Let's pay for $700 window etching for the next 5 years at 6% APR.

Its just another ploy to add on needless cost to the sticker price.

My dealer said that if it gets stolen, the vin etching insurance will give me $2,000. This is on top of what the insurance would pay. Probably some sort of catch though.

Got Quoted 600.00 and change for lojack no monthly or annual dues, then another 300 for early warning if care is being moved witout permission. so fiqure a grand. I wonder how easy it is to defiet this thing?? the lady said theres no way as they put up to 30 different sensors ect ect sales pitch..

The insurance discount comes nowhere near the cost for Lo-Jack. Besides, its a vehicle tracking device. In other words, it helps the cops recover the smoldering corpse of your stripped and torched ride.

I've seen the lowjack thing at work and it's really cool.
I got into a tracking van and it has a tracking arrow that will tell you where to take a turn and all that stuff.

Only problem was that when we were driving through dense locations (trees, buildings, and such) the tracking system was stalled. When we got out on to the open road the tracking worked better.
It took us 30-45 min. to track someone that was hidden 10 miles 3-4 miles away. Took us a little bit of a roundabout way to find him though. Pretty good system.

This was 3 years ago.
I'm sure things are even better now.

It would be good for insurance but it wouldn't help me here because we're so close to the border.
By the time you notice the car is gone it's already under a different government jurisdiction. :cry:

I have my windows etched but they're not my VIN. I actually have no idea where the number comes from
just came from the dealer that way - maybe they put my windows on the wrong truck

Actually, that's a good point.
If they want your car bad enough to take it when it has a lo jack system on it, they probably won't keep it in one piece long enough for them to find it.

Use a club, get an alarm, just make your rig look less appealing than the one next to it.
Doesn't matter what kind of security device you have though. If they want it bad enough they're going to take it no matter what.

lo-jack is great.

i saw the police track it to a homes garge, then they just waited for the owner of the house to come home and asked why he had a stolen car in his garage.
the guy was all stupid about it and claimed that he let some guy he met use his garge, but of course he didnt know the guys name, where he lived, or anything.....yah right! the police didnt buy the story and i dont think anyone would, he was full of ˟˟˟˟˟.

if someone steals your car they wont be able to have it long enough to part it out before the police track it to the garage or chop shop where it is being hidden.
and if someone steals it for a quick joy ride it wont sit in front of some apartment complex in the ghetto for 3 months until someone finally calls about some car with flat tires and 4 inches of dust and tree crap on it.
