well first off I dont really know much about suspensions. I tried reading the posts on the tundra lift but am somewhat confused with all the mumbo jumbo about springs and struts and ome's and stuff This is what im asking. I live by the mexican border so there are alot of junkyards with cheap stuff and I want to get some tundra coils for my 4runner. Can I just get a set of front and rear 4x4 tundra coils and switch them onto my 4runner. Or is there something special about the the rear. I do understand that the front is just the coil switch but I keep reading about struts for the rear?? Thanks

Tundras and Tacomas have leaf springs in the rear, so thats why that wont work.

As far as the front end goes, Tundras, Tacomas, 4runners and Sequoias have pretty much similar suspension parts.

In the rear, you will need to get either Old Man Emu (OME) coils which are good. Or, get FJZ-80 (Land Cruiser) FRONT coils which fit in the REAR of a 3rd gen. They will give you a lot of lift though. The Old Man Emu's will give you about 2.5-3" of rear lift.

For your front end, I would recommend getting new shocks while your at it. To remove the coil you have to dissasemble the "strut" assembly which is basicalyl just your coil and inside is your shock. They are mounted together... its technically a coil-over.

You can get old man emu coils or the tundra coils are very popular now too.

Great explanation. Fuzion, there has been some confusion as to which coils will really give you lift. You should be looking for the Tundra TRD 4x4 coils. It's probably best to buy new ones b/c you would not want to install the incorrect set (especially b/c you may be paying for someone to install them). They're not that much money to be honest.

I think a new set from the dealer is less than $100 a spring. You can get a used set for about $50-75 but you don't know what you're getting. Good luck.

why cant front tundra coils be used for both the runners front and rear setup?

they wont fit and im guessing the load for the rear is much greater than the front.

the rear coils are much wider and longer. ALso the front is a coilover type assemby as opposed to the rear.

The rear kinda just sits there since is a solid axle

was just wondering if it would work, i like the 2.5 inches up front but more than that is kind of stupid for my 2wd :monkey:
