Tranny problems

Got an 89 4Runner 4x4 with a V6 and an automatic. When I shift it into drive and give it gas, the engine revs up and the truck very slooooowly gets up to speed. It almost feels to me like it is starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear. I've only had this truck for a week, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take this the wrong way but have you checked fluid level for tranny to be sure its not low. May also want to smell the fluid to see if maybe its got a burnt smell usualy a sign of something worst inside.
Good Luck

I don't know a lot about automatics but check the fluids. Sounds like the clutch in the trny is sliping for one reason or another.
