Toyota Repair Manuals
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between or what is covered in Vol 1 vs. Vol 2 of these manuals?
Which one is gonna give me the basics about how to remove the dash for example?
Thanks!

I have the factory electrical manual for my '91.
Got if off of Ebay for $20 or so.
I need to get the engine one someday.
Plug in factory manuals on Ebay for Toyota and you should get some hits.
They are better than than the Chilton's and others.
Here are some scanned examples I have online:

madone,
Toyota has a number you can call and order the manuals. It used to be easier to find, now you have to go to the owners section, then the faq.
This is what is says "Toyota publications, including Owner's Manuals, Repair Manuals, and Wiring diagrams may be purchased from our Material Distribution Center or your local Toyota dealership.
To contact our Material Distribution Center, please call 800-622-2033 or 310-761-9400 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Pacific Time, Monday - Friday."
They used to have a list of the manuals, but I don't think they're listed any more so you just have to say what you're after. You can use your credit card to order from the distribution center.
I have the 2000 4Runner manuals. I don't know what year you're after, but here is what is in mine. There is an electrical wiring diagram, and two volumes of repair manual.
Vol 1 of the repair manual covers maintenance, preparation, specifications and diagnostics. Not much in there for actually doig anything. Mostly lots of step-by-step procedures for diagnosing various things.
Vol 2 of the repair manual covers engine, chassis, body, and electrical so thats what you need for dash stuff. The electrical part of this manual is by no stretch of the imagination a substitute for the electrical wiring diragram.
The wiring diagram manual is 1/2 inch thick and I can't imagine messing around with the wiring without it. There is way too much wiring to try to find things just by poking around.
None of these are cheap, but thats the way it goes. After installing some backup lights, a CB and some wiring for my GPS, I don't think the money I spent on the electrical manual was wasted. Of the three, volume 1 is probably the least useful in my mind unless you're interested in diagnosing problems and then its mostly check this, do that, ... which is supposed to identify some component that is bad. Not much help understanding how anything works or why it doesn't work.

Try here for the manuals if you can't find them on ebay and want them new. I don't have any personal experience with them but I would bet they are cheaper than your stealer.

2nd Gen Manuals
Thanks for the link for the new manuals. I have the electrical one, but need the repair one. I've had the Toyota manuals before and was always very impressed with them.
