either style is ok no preference there, i thought it was 4.5 too, can anyone confirm? also, bringing it out to 4.75 say would make it stick out of the fender well some correct?

are stock lugs conical?
and what centerbore will work??

Talking

The tacomas has 4.5. I just got some 15" steelies with 3.75 backspacing. The tires stick out about 3/4" from the fenders on my tacoma, but then again, I'm running 32x11.5r15 so the 31's won't stick out as much.

that would make the tires go into the fender well more. if you want them to stick out, you should have less backspacing. like 4 or 3.75

Measure your current backspacing and then you will know for sure what it is:

http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/Tires.shtml#WHEELS

Click the image to open in full size.

Increasing backspacing pulls the wheels/tires in closer to the body, less pushes them out wider.

And while you have the tape measure out for the backspacing measurment, measure the center bore hole diameter as well.

You likely will not be able to fit taller than 31x10.50 tire w/o a lift:

the biggest is a 33x10.5r15 on a set of 89-95 alloy wheels... (15x7, ~4.25" bs)...

you have to trim the fender skirt a little... and pounded the pinch weld flat.
