Some vids of our Sunday trip to Greenwater

These vids are from our exploration of some of the trails we found off of FS 70 and 73.
Dread makes a difficult hill look simple. I add the beginning of the hill climb to an earlier vid I posted at the beginning of the week.

DREAD Extended play

Im climbing a hill that prior to the day we were there was pretty difficult to climb. It must have been a combo of wet cold air that allowed us to climb this with ease.

smr4runner

Here are a couple of pretty impressive Tacos from the WATTORA guys. The red one belongs to the WATTORA prez. He is locked front and rear.
GrapeApe with his big size 35's powers it over the stump.

Rob

Grapeape

Its best to right click and save these vids to your local HD. They are mb intensive to keep the quality of the vids.

Enjoy

Mike, very nice vids.
Your rig sounds like my Maganflow.
Can't get the Grapeape vid to DL though.

Where 'bouts is that hill you were climbing?
73 or 70?
I'd like to try that hill.

I am ready to hit the Green again before too long.

Rob's bagpipe music cracked me up
PS, Dread's vid won't come up either.
IE says it can't find the file?

Mike, I know the problem.
Yotatech does not allow this symbol:
'

You have to take that out of the file name.

I also can't DL the other ones I did a bit ago.
Weird.

It's only happened a few times.
If you look on my index page I have a JAVA book aplet that plays 3 or 4 640x480 pics.

When I first put it up, I had 9.
That used a lot of bandwidth and I was shutdown for a few minutes.

Must be an awfull lot trying to DL your vids right now.
I do have a 5 MB MP3 fil in the off topic forum that loads up when you enter a post by Mytruck (Jim) but it has not shut down my site yet.

If you change the name of the Grape one on your site, edit your post here to and take out the ' mark, and it will appear again as a true hyperlink.

Something about that symbol that the software here does not like.
ODW will let that symbol in a post though.
Weird.

Kewl...
OK, so where is that hill
I wanna play on it.

I'm so tempted to go up tomorrow and play and explore up on 70, but I am going to sleep in a bit tomorrow, and goof off doing other stuff around here.

You know, the best time to go up there is after a rain, or when it's sprinkling light up there.
No dust flies when you caravan, and you can actually see out your window way in front of you instead of seeing a giant dust cloud.

Last time we were up there you couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you from the dust being kicked up by the one in front of you.

Oh no kidding. This summer was a pain with absolutely no rain. With all the dust, we couldn't see a thing when we transitioned from shade to sunlight. It was blinding at times. Pretty nerve racking to know that if you miss a turn you will be the first one down the mountain.

Ok. Gene may chime in if Im wrong. The hill climb I did was on FS 73. It is one the way to steamboat ridge. We had to take a right off of 73 to head to steamboat. Right after you take the right about a 100ft to your left you will see the hill climb. On the climb it kinda knarley before you reach the top as the angle sharpens. Coming down, you will not be able to see past your hood till you drop off the lip. Its a rush but its fun.

The other hill climbs are on FS 70 on the way to the Naches trail. I couldn't tell exactly where it is. I remember having to back track to head back to the Naches.

That hill climb is my next goal. The angle has pucker written all over it. Big rocks and loose soil. The capper is the hole off an old tree stump. Your left rear tire will sink into it as you are making a left turn. It defeats the purpose of catching traction on your left rear tire.

On Rob's vid you will notice as he starts his turn he has to climb over the hole w/his front left tire, watch his rear tire dissappear into the hole. Of course being locked front and rear and 33's makes this look simple.

Gene being locked in the rear only, with BFG AT finenesses his way over it.

Man Im itching to go up so bad this weekend but the wife is gone on a girls weekend outing and I have our 10month old boy teething. He is not wanting to be away from dad so looks like Im stuck at home.

Yeah, we had the same problem in some areas of being totally blinded and not being able to see in the shade/sun transition areas.
Another good time to be up there is at 6 am like we did last time when it's pitch dark out.

OK, that hill that Gene mastered the rock on looks like I might slip to much not having a locker.
I'd like the try the grassier one out you did.

Have not heard of Steam Boat up there, but I can see if it's listed in my GPS software I have.
When you pass the entrance for Suntop Lookout at the gate there, about how much further is the cutoff for Steam Boat?

On the hill climb where Gene did, I wonder if it's the same one as on my
page here?

That is a gnarly steep hill. The pics can't capture the steepness.
To walk up it leaves you panting.
It to is part of the Naches I believe.

To get to it you go up 70, then there is a cutoff to the left with a road that angles up, then goes around a corner to the left.
Entrance to the hill is on the right side of the road.

If you continue up the road past the steep hill, you end up
here at a dead end.
That is a really old pic
Still had the running boards on then.
I ran the whole Naches later that morning and made it through without a scratch, even with the boards on.
Don't know how I came out without any damage.

Guess we will both be home tomorrow thinking about our next Greenwater adventures.
I never get tired of the place. As long as I have been going up there, I have barely seen any of what it has to offer.
It's so huge. There must be a couple of hundred miles or more of old roads and trails up there.

We gotta get something planned for next August up there.

Ya. Its been down all day. I called the hosting company and they advised they would look at it. I called about an hour ago. Now a recording comes on that no one is available to answer our phone calls.
Its supposed to be a 24 hour support number. Im pissed as hell.

Oh check your e-mail Gene.

Mike, something else may be up with your site.
I often have lots of bandwidth coming from my page in the form of full res 1024x768 pics and vids, and my site doesn't shut down.

When you get a hold of them, let us know what's going on.
I useally get a live person to whenever I call.

Hey, I think I did notice something on your site last week.
It may have been your site, or someone elses.

If it was yours, then if I remember right, your 640x480 pics were 500kb or so in size.
That is 1/2 MB
That will shut you down if you have a lot of them on one page.
All of my 640s are compressed to around 50 to 60 kb in size.

Even my full res 1024s are compressed to between 90 & 130 kb each.

Hey Corey,
When I called this morning I was advised to get online to start a new trouble ticket per the helpdesk.
The tech support person didn't know sh*&#$. I advised that I couldn't ping my site. I was put on hold for 10min only to have him come back and advise that my site was down. It was everything in my power not to go off on the man.
Then I call back this afternoon only to get a recording that they are in an all day meeting and to call back later.

OK, try another thing here.
When you signed up, you were also given an IP address to use first before your donaim name would take effect the next day.

Tyr accessing your site from it and see if it works.
If it does, something is up with your domain name.

OK, I just got your IP address from doing a lookup here:
http://network-tools.com

You have to take out the httP:// from your sites URL and the 4runner part, and it gave me your IP.
I still can't get to your site, so that throws my theory out the window that your domain name may have quit.

It is trying to open your page, but it hangs.
More than likely, it's a bandwidth issue.
Was yours the site I was thiking of that had the big kb sized pics?

Im completely shut down. I can't even administer thru the web based control panel. Yes I pinged my site using my IP addr.

My trouble ticket has been put on Normal priority (argh!).
Recording states some all corporate meeting that was only supposed to last an hour. Its been 3hrs and no one answer.
All I can do is wait till they look at my trouble ticket.

Hey, your site is up

Ah ha...Looking at some of your thumbnails and then click on them
http://smregal.com/images/rearfacingrt01.jpg

That pic there is over 1/2 mb.
That is what's doing it.

A lot must have been looking at your pics at once.
That 800x600 can easily be compressed to 80 kb and still look just as good.

And your intro one
http://smregal.com/Des_Moines_Marina1.jpg
is 187 kb.
That can also look good at 40 to 50 kb.
I have a hunch this is what is doing it.

Where's the rocks?

Looks like a really fun trial. In AZ there would be boulders going up that hill.
