Does any one have any experience with slotted rotors for toyota trucks. How well do they work? How much do they cost? How do they affect wear to the pads? Where can I find them?

I really heated up my factory brakes and warped one or both of my front rotors (JUNK!!!) I hope that the slotted rotors will discipate the heat faster and help keep this from happening again. Am I right?

I'll confirm that the stock discs are junk. I took my Runner to a mechanic for an inspection. He informed me that they needed to cut the rotors and put on new pads. Well, the rotors promptly warped again, then I took it to a brake place where I used to go all the time (I moved so its far away). He told me that 4Runner rotors should never be cut, only replaced. Gadget had a write up about some he tried on his page www.gadgetonline.com It said that he went back to the factory rotors. I have been considering trying the slotted-crossdrilled rotors. I done searches, but just haven't seen any that I've got the $$$ for.

Hell, I may just go back stock to save some coin, but this is the second time I've had this problem in 60k miles - real bad shaking when braking down a hill. It gets pretty scary!

I recently went to Powerstop for drilled and slotted rotors. they told me they could make them for my '03 4runner. after almost 8 weeks of tap-dancing around with those guys, they told me that the salesman had lied to me and that there was no product for my truck. they said i could get drilled only for the 12.5" rotors in the front but could only make drilled and slotted for the rear. needless to say I'm getting my money back and going with Centric.

Seriously, I don't see why a factory rotor can't be turned. If there is warpage, turn them and get some better pads.

Go to this site. They have great stuff. I use a set of slotted rotors and a set of Hawk pads. Works awesome.

You'll get the same, if not better, performance with blank rotors.

I bought the brembo rotors and hawk pads and it is a lot better, but they still squeak and throb a little. I'm going to live with it for now, its just poor engineering on Toyota's part. Its really frustrating when you replace everything and do it by the book and it still doesn't work right. The funny thing is, my Buick brakes are much better. Go American engineering!
