Thumbs up SAS with coils

Hi. Im new to this forum and it pleases me to find one were more than 2 people a week visit.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only nutcase around.
I've checked out the forum and found a few solid axle swaps with leaf springs.
I've build a SAS with coil springs a year ago because I was fed up with the IFS (too soft, too weak, not enough articulation) but also with the leaf springs (way too stiff, but plenty strong). I drove a Hilux for 9 years with leaf springs front and back and 33's.
Nobody else out there who has done this also.

Hello and Welcome to the forum!

Your coil SAS looks pretty good to me! What year of truck is that on? DO you have anymore pictures?

Hope you enjoy your stay on the forum!

It's a '90 4R V6. Sorry. I mean since a few weeks it's a '90 3.0 L6.
I'm almost finished with my supra swap. It looks preety standaard but has a SAS, supra engine, doubel diff lockers, electric swaybar disconnect, 4-5 inch lift and a massive stereo.

Very nice!

I just got done reading about your Supra-I-6-swap, looks great so far! It should be a very capable 4Runner when you get it finished, good luck!

Yor not bursting my bubble. I'm trying to find info on what's the best location and angle for the panhard bar. My first SAS failed. It was vibrating at high speeds. I never was able to solve the problem. I think it was caused by the splitting of the solid axle and adding 3 inch of track. Probably bent it wile welding it together again.
I dicided to perform another attempt and this one workes properly from the start although I have to use a very stiff steering damper. Mayby the angle on the panhard bar is wrong or my springs are too soft wich causes minor drifting. I seem to have problems with the ripples on the asphalt which cause the car to drift from side to side slightly. My wife still uses it and it's very comfortably to drive. I can now take speedbumps at 60 mph. Just a large "THUMP" and thats it. Great for high speed off roading.

from what i understand which is very basic on the coiled SAS is the key is too have the panhard bar at the same angle as your draglink. something about it traveling in the same arc.

i know on the TTORA there are a few coiled SAS and also do a search on Pirate 4x4 bbs.

i have a few sites on coils SA but they are on my work PC. if i found them, i'll post it for you.

I believe the new Porsche Cayenne's have this feature as well.

...just in case it came up on Jeapordy or something.

Plenty of pics of everything I made and changed. I'll send some tomorrow. The electric sway bar disconnect is from a 2002 Nissan Patrol 3.0 Diesel. I'ts a simple and strong system that replaces one of the sway bar connecting rods and when disconnected can extend freeley for several inches. And it only cost me 23 $ at a wrecking yard !
